stays of the Kknsas City delegation, will

Hollya Win from Merchants.
The Hollys went over the river Sunday
and defeated the Merchants before a large
crowd. Both teams hit good, but Hlokey
kept his scattered after the first inning,
while the Hollys bunched their on Brod
beck. As usual the Hollys played well In
the field, their two errors being on hard
chances. They ran bases In Ty Cobb fashion
especially P. Kelley. A fat double play
from McAndrewa to GUlihan to Daugherty
was another feature. Next Sunday the
Hollys play the Farrtlls at Benson Eagle

Judge O. M. Brown, chief examiner of the
Interstate Commerce commission, today
opened hearings here Into the question of
increase In freight rates in the territory
north of the Ohio river and the Potomao,
and east of the Mississippi river. The rail
roads have asked for increases which, It
haa been figured, would cause an ad
vance of half a million dollars for the af
fected territory.
Counsel for the railroads and shippers
obtained an adjournment until September
7, when testimony will be taken.
Judge Brown said the western hearing
of the trans-Missouri case would be held
August 29 In Chicago. j
FINE APPLE CROP IS EXPECTED

For the first time In some years Ne
braska has hopes of having an apple crop.
In northeastern Kansas and In soutHeast-
tern Nebraska the crop of fruit has turned
out much better than was expected and
about a one-half crop will be the result.
Spraying the crop has saved a number
of farms their crop, the difference between
the fruit which has not been sprayed and
that that has being painfully apparent.
The greatest part of the crop Is reported
to be In the valley, according to the Burl
Ington reports.

One of the most successful tournament
shoots of the season was held Pun
day afternoon at the South Omaha Gun
club range at Forty-fourth and Q streets.
The crowd was larger than at any previous
shoot. The Omaha Gun club, the Benson
club and two South Omaha club entered
the competition. The Omsha Hod and Gun
club and the Council Bluffs teams did not
show up. Dan Gellus, the., state game
warden, failed also to bring up the Llncpln
team so he shot with the Omaha train.
The South Omaha team No, X, consisting
of Dworak, Frye, Morrill. Dixon and B'-w
defeated the other teams by a wide mar,
The South Omaha team No. 2 was the
ender with a score of 396.

the perfect score. Had this been dona

of ninety-nine will ba considered good and
none of the sportsmen, were able to re

Great Interest was taken In the Individual
score between Dworak of South Omaha and
Whitney of Benson. Dworak won by a
score of ninety-nine to' ninety-eight. The
one bird missed In the first event was the
only one Dworak missed In the' tourna
ment shoot. Dworak made the high score
of the season. , s
The South Omaha Gun club entertained
the vlsl ors with refreshments of all kinds.
