lonrirtnatloon on the dlsasteroua condi
tions in the French and German crop out
look gave renewed buying power, which
easily meed prices higher from yesterday's
close. Should foreign countries be forced
to buy our wheat, trades are convinced of
much higher value.
Very mtls corn Is found for sale, while
wheat advances and reports about the
trowing crop continue to be unfavorable
Values are strong and ths upturn.
Wheat opened higher In accordance with
higher cables and bullish foreign news.
A good advance was registered, but sell

wheat and ruled higher. Hhorts were buy

by dry weather In the western part of the

Fra tares of the Trading and Closing

CHICAGO, Aug. 12. Sales of wheat to
uermany were made today by Chicago
bouses and alno at Philadelphia. In addi
tion. Baltimore confirmed 600,000 bushels ex
port sales, motrtly to France. Directly as a
result, prices advanced three times In suc
cession, but attempts at profit taking
caused reactions so that the close was weak
at a net gaing of jc. Corn showed a
general rise of Vr; 1c, oats, c to MUo, and
provisions ot zwiiy,c.
The total of world's shipments turned
out unexpectedly heavy. Large sales of
Hour to cross the Atlantic were also re
ported. Fluctuations In the September were
between il.tE(yl.o-.;, with the close up c
up at $1.02 to $1.021.03.
Corn showed more strength than .any
other grain. Many reports were received
that, rain was needed, and that farmers
were selling little for the stations. One
crop expert figured losses 2i8 points since
July 25 In the leading states, barring Illi
nois, which he asserted to be unchanged
In condition. September ranged from 64c to
6614c. with the close e up at 66o. The
cash market was strong. No. 2 yellow

Oats were helped by the strength of other
grain. September varred from

wide surplus of the year's earnings over

very similar to those on the Reading. The
strength of the Pacifies was ulso aided
by the Indirect effect of the week's increase
In the Canadian Paelfln dividend. Th
contrast In the prosperous showing made
by these reports to stockholders with the
compiainxs neard rrom railroad officials of
the onerous conditions for operating rail
roads. Inspired a more hopeful view of
railroads' prospects than has been held
by the majority of the stock market. The
preliminary estimates pt the currency
movements pointed to another strong bank
return tomorrow. The arrival today of
$3,000,000 of Imported gold will figure In the
showing. Ths gain by the banks from sub
treasury operations Is lees than last week,
and there Is a sharp decline In the volume
of receipts by express from the Interior,
the balance of the movement remaining,
however, largely In favor of New York.
The Increase In bank cash for the week
on all accounts Is computed to amount to
between $8,000,000 and $8,000,000. There has
been nothing to Indicate any Important

Inducing bankers to bid mora freely for

made a subject of commant that Is not
favorable In Its Influence on the stock

The strength In the grain markets was
due more to reports of revived demand for
export for wheat than to news of crop
conditions.
Further weakness was shown by Amer

broke away from that lnfluenoe. The propo

supposed to threaten a corresponding re

company.

HOUo-Uvely trading and- higher prices
featured the hog trads this morulug. Jjime
advances prevailed In both divisions as a
rule, but some business was dons at
figuies aafely a shilling and even - 15c
higher. It was a market entirely to the
liking of sellers, a perfect, clearance was
mads during early hours. Light receipts
were laraalv reannneitil f,. .1, ..
Improvement, although a broader shipping

Heavy hogs sold readily at 17.60 or bet

BHEEP The big end of a normal supply
in ths sheep barn this morning consisted of
lambs with froler grades especially plenti
ful. Inquiry from killers was much mors
active than It has been recently and early
hours' produoed sales that looked to ba
right around a dims higher, choice fat
lambs selling at 16.50 and better. Bulk of
offerings changed hands at the advance
noted, 86.76 being the highest price quotable.
Today's Improvement wipes out a portion of
the early decline, of course, but vslues are
still about 150 lower than a week ago.
Oood sheep were scarce and sold readily
at fully steady figures. Small bunohes of
fanoy western ewes moved to the scales
at 33.9CtT4.10, but the ordinary run of grass
ewes are not quotable at over (3.75 at most.
Ths wether end of the trsde showed very
little change, top quotations remaining
around the (4.00 mark. - Fat yearlings
brought 26.00, ths same as yesterday, and
strictly prints handy weights would do
well to command 35.25. Bulk of current
sheep sales are on a weak to a dime lower
basis as compared with those of last week's
close.
The call for feeder stock ts still broad and
active. Present prices are only a shade
higher than s week ago, but practically
everything ha been sold and tomorrow
will find an almost perfect clearance.
Feeder lambs brought aa much as 36.10 to
day and ths more desirable kinds of feeder
sheep are selling on much the same basis
as good quality killers.
