NARROW MARKET LIMITATIONS nefore Close Shorts Aaala Raise I'rlces on Most Sekedales Grow ing; Crops Hold Large Skare of Atteatloa. NEW YORK, Aug. 8,-The sfn-k market today disclosed Its narrow limitations un iter clrrumstances as they exist. The shsrp rebound of the day lie fore seemed to ex haust the demand from the shorts and t'lere was none forthcoming of a more positive nature. Kalea were In moderate volume, but the demand had become so feeble and languid that no absorptive medium was provided and prlcts gave way. liefore the close of the day the require ments of the short asserted themselves again and caused a recovery of most of Irte day's decline. The news offered no striking changes In condition bearing on values. The grow ing crops hold a large share of attention. Karly reports of mote high temperatures In Texas were succeeded by assertions that cloudy and cooler weather had developed there. The money market offered nothing to supply the depressive Influence on storks. The movement of cash Into New York bank reserves continues on a large scale. A good Impression vat made by the reported axsertions of Chicago banker that the balances of country banks In the western reserve centers are being largely replenished aa a result of the liberal move ment of wheat to market. Study In de tail of the national bank returns to the comptroller affords reassurance as to the reserve position of the .country banks, which are responsible for the loan expan sion of the three month preceding June SO. Rumor of price cutting of teel prod uct by Independents were accompanied by a supposition that the United States Steel corporation would meet th cut. The selling of United States Steel was a decisive sympathetic Influence on the gen eral list. The rally In that stock afforded corresponding relief. The dealings In it, Union Pacific and Reading accounted for over half the day's total business. Bonds were Irregular. Total sales, par value, $1,444,000. United State bond were unchanged on call. This brliiKS the for the three days up to 81.000 head and over, which ia the largest for any similar period so far this year and larger than fnr the mrreanunrilnir dava last year by almost 10.000 head. Wblle the cattle consisted largely of rangers, there waa still quuo a showing of cornfed steers, some of them of pretty good quality.-It was also notice able that the westerns as a rule were carrying mora or less flesh, so that ' tho bulk was suitable for killers, xnis ten the supply of feeders small, and it Is being remarked by feeder buyers that they, never saw a time In the history of the trade when there were so many cattle coming and so few of them feeders. Included among, today's receipts, there were, how ever, quite a good many stock cattle and quite a sprinkling of trash, but very little in the way of goed readers. In spite of the fact that a very larg por tion of all the cattle in the yards consisted of beef steers the demand was so good that the trade was fairly active, with prices as much aa 10c higher on the desirable kinds. Salesmen In some coses thought they se cured an advance of as much as 15c on cattle that Just happened to please buyers. Cows and he fers were in very rair ae- mand and the market reasonably active at an advance of 10c. Htrlctlv srood feeders were scarce and 10 (150 higher, with the) general run of feed er 10c higher. There were a good many stockers on sale and they did not show much If any Improvement as compared with yesterday.
