OMAHA, Aug. J. WW
Weather conditions continue very favor
able for harvesting spring whest In the
northwest. Market values sag lower under
w-elght of the heavy arrivals of new wheat
t primary points. Millers sro slow buyers
nd cash prices are weak and lower.
More scattered rains In the western and
southern corn, belt, with temperatures gen
erally better. Receipts are good, causing
heavy selling and values were easier again
notwithstanding the recent break.
A bearish wheat market was the order
on all futures. Liverpool cables were very
weak and lower. Easier northwest markets
were followed by a bearish report brought
out by the Illinois grain dealers which
helped to lower price levels. Should the
Movement of new wheat continue a further
decline Is expected.
There was but one side to the corn market
today, as the map showed good rains In
Kansas and parts of Nebraska and a much
Improved forecast generally over the en
tire belt. Prices broke on offerings of
long corn, although trade was not heavy.
' Primary wheat receipts i were 1.H95.000
bushels and shipments were 495,000 bushels,
against receipts last year or 1,140.000 bushels
and shipments of 9fld.0fl0 bushels.
(Primary corn receipts were 693,000 bushels
and shipments were 142 000 bushels, against
receipts last year of 601.000 bushels end ship
ments of 2G9.000 bushels.
: Clearances were 8,700 bushels of corn,

CHICAGO GRAIN AND PROVISIONS
Featarea of the Trading; nnd Closing;
Prleea on Board of Trade.
CHICAGO, Aug. 2. Surprising Indications
that the Illinois wheat crop notwitnstana
lng supposed heavy losses by Hessian fly
will be 4C.00O.O00 bushels as against 81,000-
000 bushels a year ago, smashed the market
today. The close was weak at nearly
the lowest Dolnt of the session and show
lng fall of Titfla to lo as compared with
twenty-four hours previous. There was a
final loss of lVs to lo on corn, and
to 94c (n oats. For provisions the latest
figures ranged ; from 22ic advance to 15o
decline.
Information as to the Illinois wheat yield
came through the ' State grain deal
ers association and was regarded as sen-
.satlonal from a trade standpoint. Detailed
figures from more than 600 points north
of the Vandalla railway were given showing
an average crop of twenty bushels an acre,
on 2,139,000 acres. -
v ' Bulls took what comfort they could from
assertions by cash grain - men , that the
wheat movement from the interior has
reaohed the maximum and that offerings
were on the decrease. September ranged
from ll.OJVs to $1.024 and closed Va to
lftc down at 81.00 to $1.00.
General rain In Kansas- and Nebraska
made a weak market, for corn. Crop reports
were better, but there was much commis
sion buying on the declines. September
sold from 62 to fflMaC, 'closing easy at to1

BEAR PARTY AT WORK IN PLACES
Government Report on Cotton Condi
tions Foremost Influence In shap
ing Judgment of Agjrloal
tnral Omtlook.
NEW YORK. Aug. J.-The stock market
today was largely an affair of profis
rlural traders and their views of the
rpeculatlve outlook seemed to change from
hour to hour, Judging by the continual
fluctuations In the course of prices. The
n moment of some special stocks gave
warning that the bear party had been at
work In tie last few days.
There Is no one subject at present to
which so much Importance Is attached us
the year's agricultural harvests, and the
market showed a real response to the
more hopeful turn of the' day's news In
that respect. Early depression was trans
foimed Into a buoyant nnd active closing.
The government report on cotton condi
tions, ss of July 25, was the foremost In
fluence in shaping lu.lginent of the agri
cultural outlook. The condition figures,
showing a heavy deterioration during the
month and a poor comparison with the
average In a number of years, does not
offer great Inspiration to enthusiasm when
considered absolutely. The speculators con
sidered It, not from that standpoint, but
relatively. In that light it was no worse
than expected and better than soma of the
preliminary estimates, notably that of the
National Olnners' association.
There were reports of cloudy weather In
Texas, where the trouble Is . with drouth
rather than excessive moisture. The drouth
stricken portions of the corn belt were re
ported to have been visited by "ahundant
and snaking rains" and there was heavy
Stilling of that commodity on the exchanges
to bur out the reports.
The cheerful tenor of ' these advices
strengthened the resistance which stocks
had begun to show to the depresolon of
the tarly part of the day. The depression
centered on the Hawley group to the ao
cnmpanlment of predictions that the divi
dend on Chesapeake & Ohio could not be
maintained and that the ambitious protects
of the combination centering around that
property were becoming Involved in em
barrassments similar to those which over
came the Pearson syndicate.
The strong rally in Chesapeake & Ohio
and a similar rebound In Sloes-Sheffield
Steel served as a warning that protective
measures against bear raids were in force.
Bonds were Irregular. Total sales, par
value, $1,300,000. United States bonds were

HOGS The downward trend of hog prices
was checked this morning on a market
featured by sharper discrimination be
twoon lights and heavies. Receipts were
liberal with assortment mixed, heavy hogs
plentiful and quality none too good. Ship
pers bought cautiously, but killers' orders
were ample and while demand was at no
time very active, the big end of a 9,000
supply went to the! scales in very good
season.
Lights snd light mixed met with the
popular inquiry, as usual, and sold at the
high figures, tops reaching a.0t Bulk of
good lights went at $7.75(97.90, quotably
strong with yesterday's trade. Good mixed
also commanded prices tli&t were a little
higher in spots, but rrlces are still very
uneven snd quite a little business was
done at figures no better than steady.
One drove that was nut uo early, weighing
233 pounds, cost $7.65, fully a nickel higher
than yesterday's grand average.
Heavy hogs wero slow sellers from start
to- finish and prices showed more or less
weakness In hoth divisions. Good heavies
brought steady prices In a few instances,
but the ordinary run of stuff had to move
around weak to 60 lower. Best heavies
topped at $7.85((;7.40, with common and
rough gradea selling on down tbe list ac
cording to quality. Bulk' of total sales
ranged from tT.Xt.Tt as compared with
yesterday's scattered bulk ot $7.86(7.70.
