Owing to the moderate receipts, Uieie haa been a better feeling prevateut, and prices have shown decidea improvement as compared with the demoralisteu state of the market at the close of last week and the opening of the present week. On Monday and Tuesday of this week beef cattle sold at the low point of the sea son, the market being In a badly de moralized condition, not only here, but at every other selling point. As receipts every where showed, a very heavy decrease, and as the glut of beef was cleaned up, the market took on a better feeling. Prices gradually firmed up, eo that at the present time it is safe to say that the break the first of the week has been all wiped out, and possibly a little more, leaving the mar ket fully steady with last week's close, or possibly a little stronger. What has been said regarding beef steers would apply to a greut extent to the mar ket on cows and heifers. Prices on that kind of cattle have Improved rapidly dur ing the last three days, and they are now Mi 40a higher than the low point. Canners, which did not show as much decline as the better gradea, have naturally shown less advance, the medium and good cows show ing the most. Rains In some sections of the country, to gether with decreased supply, has brought about a decidedly better feeling In the atocker and feeder market, and cattle of that descriDtlon can. at the close of the St. Louis Live Stock Market. HOGS Anothor mean market developed In the hog yards this morning and, even though supply was limited, It required con siderable effort to move offerings at figures , that were 10clo low er than yesterday s average trade. Shippers bought up fully 1,000 head of mixed hogs during early hours, but one of ths larger packers proved a poor purchaser, and competition w as very alack throughout. A Three killing droves, aggregating 4,300 head, cost about fa. 90. Heavies and rough mixed had i sell around fB.06u8.70, fair to good mixed moved at or near f8.80 and lights sold at the high figures. Despite the dull tone to trade, the big end of supply changed handa before midday. Closing rounds were very alow at the full decline. A large portion of receipts went at fs.70rf I. to, as compared with yesterday's spread of f8.80iUV.tiO. Tops dropped to even money, JOo lower than the high mark yesterday. Continued liberal receipts at all points this week have resulted In broad declines. Demand on most days has Just about equalled supply, and while movement has not been very active, holdover hogs were not numerous enough to exert a very strong bearish Influence on the trade. Cur rent sales are just about 60o tower than those of a week ago. Representative sales: Pr. No. At. bta. Mi 40 1 1 hi IX 320 t 48 3S 114 40 I UC., 373 VW I ' f...
