having a shade tfto better of tho affair.
But three lilts were made off lilm and
all of these wero (Ingles. Hut one of
these figured la the single run mude by
the Rourkea. , .
Melter hod excellent control and did
not deserve to lose, tie passed but one
man, struck out six and had the few who
did get on bases hugglug clone.
Omnha had three chances to get across
and at least tlo (lie game, but could not
hit at opportune times. In the fourth
inning Corrldon got on when he waa hit
in tha slats. lie was sent down to second
to negotiate a steal, but waa caught. Kane
was walked and Thompson singled and
would have scored tho red-headed boy If
he had not Wanted the chance. At the time
he waa sent down Jimmy Kane had two
Vol Is and one strike.' King made a alngle
in tha sixth, went to second when Uaker
fumbled Corridon's bunt and got to the
third corner When McNeil fumbled. With
one gone, Welch hit a fly back of Becond
and Kox, got it. King waa sent In after ,
the fly was caugbt, but was headed off
five Or alx feet. T

Tho Kourkes started something In the
last' inning that looked as though it might
mean a tie .soore. " ' Vadjmfn was -cnt lh

at CorhanJ l' who booted.- Schlpke came
through with a dandy good hit over third.
Holly did what was expected ot him and
sacrificed, putting Skipper and Cad up a
peg. Uondlng rapped a' hot ono close,
toward third which looked as though It
could not be anything less than a single.
Corhan mado a doKtierate. run, stuck one
mil to the ground and made a wonderful
stop. He recovered and' threw Johnny
out at the first bag. However, Cadman
scurried for home aa soon us the ball was
hit and had plenty of time. With but one
score to tie and Schlpke 'on third Dusty
Rhodes was sent in to see if he could not
cover himself with glory. -Ho could not
connect with anything thrown to him by
Uaker and struck out. . . ,
Bt. Joseph made its first score in the
fifth inning. iluuer- singled after Jonos
waa out. Corhan went out, second to first,
and Bauer got to second on the play. Mc
Neil hit ono between Hollerfbeck and King
and Duke went after it. ' It was a long run
and he got his hands on ft, but - dropped
It. King, who was coining' front .the .other
direction, --could doubeleasl- have .made
the catch, but no one oalled to the two
speeding men to let them know . which
one could get It Bauer came home on
the error. McNeil attempted to reach third
and waa thrown out by Holly.
Bt Joseph made the other run in the
eighth. Corhan fouled out to Corrldon,
who made a awell run back of third and
caught the sphere. McNeil went out, sec
ond to first Wolfe waa given the first
and only base on ball by Melter. He stole
second and came home when Buker singled,
Billy Fox, who recently "wore a Ilourke
uniform, played second for the Hollanders
and did a good Job. He- accepted eight
chances aa cleanly as could be desired and
hit for two singles.
Thompson, who Is taking Graham's place
at second, played, a good -game. He had
three put outs vand seven assists and did
not boot once , In making .them. He also
got on of the thrue lills that were made
by the Rourkofl.- The score: ''
