"Awful Pike" Brings Many Penalties
to Automobiles on the
Lonj Trip.
NASHVILLE, Tenn., Juno 16.-(Special
Telegram.) Two of the big hits In Nash
ville are the Cadillac gun carriages entered
by the Northwestern Military academy.
Both of these cars made good runs today
and were vlelng for attention with a demo
cratic convention before the Maxwell hotel
tonight. The Rapid truck which Is accom
panying the tour and printing a daily edi
tion of the "Rapid Way" is on the Job,
despite the bad roads. The car finished
at an early hour this evening a marvelous
performance for a stock truck over the
awful pike which cost so many pleasuro
cars penalties.
The contestants began arriving here
shortly before 6 o'clock and at 8:30 tonight
were still arriving at Intervals. They re
port a rough trip from Louisville, which
they left at 7 o'clock this morning, but no
accidents. ' Two of the cars. It 1b said,
made perfect adores, but nothing of It can
be learned until the scoring committee
completes its compilation.
The route tomorrow passes through
Columbus, Tenn., and Florence,' Ala. The
night will be spent at Sheffield.
