GUTHRIE, Okl., June 16. Developments
in the capital removal fight became more
acute at Guthrie today, with the return
of practically all state officials, save Gov
ernor IlaBkell and Secretary of State Bill
Cross. The officials cams here for the
arguments on the demurrer to the petition
in the district court, to enjoin the removal
ot the capital. Judge Huston took the
matter under advisement and probably
will render a decision tomorrow. In case
the demurrer Is overruled the attorney
general will appeal to the supreme court.
In his argument this afternoon Attorney
Horner, who represented Guthrie, arraigned
the governor for the removal of the state
seal, and hi attempt to establish the cap
ital at Oklahoma City before the result
of the election is' known.
That Oklahoma has a dual capital Is
no longer in doubt. Governor Haskell and
Secretary of State Cross are transacting
official business under the original seal
at Oklahoma City, while Assistant Secre
tary of State Leo Myer, with a duplicate
seal, is transacting business in Guthrie.
Supreme Court Heedless.
The supreme court and other depart
ments of state are proceeding with their
various duties as if a capital removal
election had not been held. The republi
can stale commute this afternoon recog
nized the two capitals by filing at both
Guthrie and Oklahoma City referendum
petitions. The duplicate seal of state was
used here.
The citations for Governor Haskell and
other state officials to appear in federal
court and show ctuse why they should
attempt to remove the capital of the state
are returnable Friduy. A federal Judge
has not yet been secured to sit in Judo
Cotterall's stead.
Guards are stationed about the Guthrie
state house to prevent the removal of
records, or other state property. Labor
Commissioner Daugherty was searched to
day for state papers before being allowed
to leave the city. Mayor Farquarharus
Baid tonight that he had given no orders
for the search and regarded the act as
censurable.
Citation on Governor.
OKLAHOMA CITY, Okl., June 15.-Dep-uty
United States Marshal Chris Madsen
of Guthrio, tonight served a citation on
Governor Haskell to appear In the federal
court to show why he should attempt to
remove the state capital from Guthrie.
The subpoena was delivered to Governor
Haskell in his office.
Last night Deputy United States Marshal
Heck Thomas was repulsed by the gov
ernor, because of his attitude. The gov
ernor had snatched a paper from the hand
of Sheriff Mahoney of Logan county.
"This is not Mahoney," said Thomas.
"This is the governor of Oklahoma, I
would have you know," said Haskell.
The subpoena was taken away unserved,
after the governor had turned his back
on the officer.
A more sensational version of the in
cident is given by Deputy Thomas, who
was accompanied by Deputy Marshal
Jacobson. According to Thomas' story,
the governor, when Informed by Jacobson
that he had papers from the federal court
for him, replied: 1
"I don't care who you are; I am the
governor of Oklahoma. Get out of here,
o I will knock you down stairs."
They were then in the second story of
the hotel where Governor Haskell has his
Oklahoma City headquarters. Jacobson
walked down the stairs.

sued by their agents is the chief remedy

Mr. Plerson said after the meeting that
bankers everywhere have determined to
curtail loans on bills of lading until the
carriers are made responsible. "When it
Is realized that all of our crops are
financed by bills of lading," he added,
"the gravity of the situation is apparent."

Willis E. Reed of Madison will become
a candidate for United States senator to
morrow when he files with the secretary
of state the necessary papers. He reached
Lincoln tonight bringing a receipt for the
W filing fee which he paid to the county
treasurer of Madison county.
"I shall be In the fight to the end,"
said Mr. Reed tonight.
