On Wed nesday, June 15, J. C. Mars, In a twenty four horee-power Curtlas biplane will at tempt a fl)rht 'from Lawrence, Kan., to Overland Park, a suburb of this city, a distance of thirty-four miles. v Mars will try to make the trip with but one stop, at Glathe, about twenty mllea from Lawrence. He will fill his gasoline tanks, and oil his planes there. He ex pects to niako the trip in an hour. Two machinists will follow Mars In an automobile. The time ."or leaving Lawrence has not been definitely decided upon. It Is prob able, however, that It will be about 8:30 o'clock in the afternoon. Mars will go jver a part of the course tomorrow, to determine his route. Mars will make several exhibition flights here Thursday, if he Is successful with his Overland flight Wednesday. The start ing point for the exhibition flights will be Overland Park, where Charles K. Hamil ton appeared lust December. In addition to the contesting cars there were three automobiles for olflclals o( the tour, four for newspaper men and several for emergency use. One of the newspaper cars carried block, rope and tackle, and lit addition, a big box on the front, lni.lt in two compartments and labelled "flrat aid for the Injured." Automobile enthusiasts of this vicinity were out in force to see the start and nearly 100 escorting machines, most of them manned by members of the Auto mobile club of Cincinnati, left the city with the tourists. It was planned by many of these escorts to "blaze tho way for the contextnnts as far as Louisville, where the first night stop Is scheduled. ' The route of this year's lour,' which Is the seventh in the Glidden scries, covers 2.S61 miles and passes through thirteen Btates. Those who planned this run claim that It will test every car In the event to the utmost. At times the pathfinder car, which went Over the territory several weeks ago, had the utmost difficulty In getting through. One notable feature of the field this year Is the small number of heavy touring cars.
