CATTLE As usual on a Saturday, there
was nothing of any consequence on sale
In the way of beef cattle and the market
waa nominally steady wltn yesterday.
Prices have been- very Irregular all week,
partly owing to the uneven distribution
ot the receipts and partly owing to the
fact that eastern markets were reported
very unsatisfactory. Both local dressed
peer men and eastern buyers showed a
strong preference throughout the week for
the heavy and well finished cattle, and aa
compared with a week ago, these do not
show more than a IO441I60 decline. On the
other hand, all classes of buyers have been
very bearish on the general run of medium
and pretty good steers and values show a
drop ot fully 25Zr36o for the week.
in cows and heifers the market has been
largely Influenced by the liberal receipts
of Texas cattle at other points. Strictly
good to choice fat kinds have commanded
a ready sale right along at prices very little
lower than a week ago, ana tne same noma
true as to tne tnin and common graaes.
The In-between kinds have suffered a de
cline of fully 2S35o and have been very
slow ana indifferent sellers throughout,
Veal calves have been In good request
right along at fully steady prices, but
there haa been a 104126c drop in Quotations
for bulls, staas and rouah stook a-enerally.
In Blockers-and feeders the volume ot
business haa been small. The recent heavy
decline lb prices has naturally stimulated
buying to some extent and the strictly
good to choice light grades ot steers and
heifers nave eoia to gooa aavantage rignt
along. The ordinary run of Blockers and
feeders have ahown little chai.ge In values,
with the trade quiet from tart to finish.
A good clearance haa been made for the
week.

HOGS Recently developed strength in
provisions has been a potent factor in
stiffening up values for hogs the last few
days, and although the week's receipts
have been liberal, closing prices are only
a shade lower than a week ago. The trade
opened out rather Quiet this morning, but
when the trade once opened out it waa
active and the big bulk of the receipts sold
in short order. Prices were pretty close

the popular figure being i.4u, as against
$9.25&9.30 yesterday. The narrow spread in
prices is at least partly due to the fact
that the quality ot the hogs has been very
good this week and extremes of weight are
fare. Alter inn Ulgnu uiuen jibu uocn
practically all filled, the market softened
a little and some of the late sollera had to
rrent shaded figures.
Notwithstanding the liberal supplies of
hogs this week ana tne rather aun ana un
