The lltbrary societies of the Omaha High
school .(! their regular meetings Friday.
The general trend of the programs were
toward dramatics and debates, the Inter-
' vala being filled with recitations and musi
cal numbers. '
The Elaine society, had one of the most
interesting programs, consisting of. vaude
ville, modeled on .the most modern plans.
Josephine Congdon was In charge as mana
ger of. the show and she produced some
startling effects. The program consisted of
the Singing Slitters, Helen Eastman, Ruth
Clarke, . M.lnnJe Johnson, Kathleen Carr,
Ada Morris and ..Catherine Wood worth;
Kile. Pe pta and Blanca, famous "Parlsan
Marja 'pel Carros, . a world's famous
violinist; European Novelty Gymnasts, In
an .original; stunt; " klnodromo.
'The Margaret Fuller society held a debate
on the question, "Resolved, that a School
Paper Is a Benefit to a High School." The
affirmative of the argument was taken by
Elisabeth Doud end the negative by Marlon
Lombard. ZudBl!e Srtrtthvgave a"'readlng and
Helen Vom Weg' a paper. Prof. Nathan
Bernstein addressed the society on some
school questions.' Alice West read an essay
and. Amy Nelson-gave a violin solo as a
closing number.

The Priscllla Alden eoclety gave an Inter
esting . play, . entitled. "The Ghost of an
Idea" as Us program. Helen Harte played
Polly Van .' Flutter, Heaulah liesslre. th

Ghost. - Mildred Bennett gave a violin solo

The Browning society took the study of
the life of James Whltcomb Riley as Its pro
gram for this dste. Joaephlne Ranee gave
a sketch of his life as an opening; Marlon
Paneuse" In "Terphlchore's Dream;" Mile.
Parsoaa described his every-day life.'
Clair Patterson and Lola Byrd gave some
recitations from .his- works and Grace
Robinson read an essay , on , "The Study
of .Poetry," also.
The Hawthorne society presented a play,
"Pantomime," aa the feature of Ha enter
tainment.. Hannah "Musktn took the part
of Bessie, Cleo Warthen the part of Llaktm
Smith and Helen that of Mrs. Smith. Helen
UtwIU acted the part of the lawyer, Sara
Ay res that of a farmer and May Yates that
of Patrick. Margaret Howard read an essay
on "Spring" and Elolae Weat gave a violin
solo.
'T Rivals."
' The Linlnger Travel olub produced a play,
"The Rivals." Eula Crawford as Lydla,
Bertha Elklns as Lucy. Madeline Jsskelek
aa Mrs. Malaprop, mule Peteraon aa Sir
Anthony Absolut. Louise' Heitfeld and
Blanch Peaver gave an Interesting dialogue
from "A School of Scandal," and Louise
Heitfeld and Elsie Neff each gave some
recitations. Freedo Bellman also gave a
reli'tallon..
The Athenian' society held a debate on
the.iquastlon, ."Resolved, That Catch Cora
mad Should Not Be Given as a Part of
. Prill. "Olso Alulr took the affirmative of
the .question and Leslie Burkenroad gave
the negative side. Current events were re
viewed bv Louis Rlnele. William Wlldlnar
gave a reading and Sam Block gave a short
talk.
CONSCIENCELESS WRETCH
STOLE MUNGER'S CLOCK
Result Is that Everybody Around
the Judge's Office Has
Been Late.
Nearly everybody about the office of the
United States district Judge has been more
or less late for the last day or two because
some conscienceless wretch has stolen the
office clock from the sanctum-sanctorum
of Judge W.. H. Munger.
The clock has finally been traced to a
pawnbroker's shop and the police authori
ties have In hoc a party giving the name
of F. L. Parker, an alleged limb of the
law who has been recognized as the chap
that pawned the clock.
The clock was a small affair, a little
black leather-covered concern, worth $1
or $u, but It kept good time.
Along about Monday last someone stole
an overcoat from the Union Pacifio head
quarters and pawned It Later he put in
an appearance at the pawnbroker's with
the government clock; this was on Tues
day, and the pawnbroker reported the case
after he had accepted the clock, and It was
finally traced to Judge Hunger's office.
As the office of Judge Munger Is always
open during the daytime It was easy
enough for the thief to slip in and get
away with the clock.
The case will come up for hearing Satur
day morning before Judge Crawford and
may be later venued to the federal court
on the ground of the clock being govern
ment property.
