NEW TORK, Feb. 11. The stock market
was affected today by the Impending holi
day and the Inclination of professional op
erators to close up contracts with a two
days' closed Interval to go through. Much
waa made In the speculation of the Inten
tion of President Taft to make a speech In
New York sum time tomorrow bearing on
the administration's attitude towards the
corporation problem. The intimation was
broadly conveyed that this speech was to
be of a reassuring character to capital and
finance In Its statement of Intentions.
Itevelnpments In the money market war
calculated to stimulate an Investment de
mand for securities. The growing of abund
ance of banking resources In foreign mar
kets Induced expectation of a prolonged
period of ease. One result was seen In the
cabled reports that New York was aga.ln
borrowing large sums In London, auppoaed
to be designed for employmont of the stock
market. The international trade move-
mnnts shnw London still In a position to
extend credits to New York, the exports
ef agricultural products from the United
plates for January having fallen more than
$''1,000,000 In value below those for January
of last year, principally by reason of tha
heavy shrinkage In value of cotton ex porta
Dlsousoion of supposed trade reoeaalon
dropped out of sight In the presence of the
mward movement of stocks. Rumors were
renewed of progress In the projected merger
Of the great copper produolng Interests.
The announced stock dividend distribution
by the Pullman company has been fore
shadowed In the advance In the price of the
shares.
A heavy contraction In the actual loan
Item of the barvks reflected the stock mar
ket liquidation of the week. The actual
cash Item gave no clue to the unexplained
discrepancy of that Item last week with
the known movement of money by which
"me $ir, 000,000 of bank cash apparently
disappeared.

SHEEP-Recelpts
morning, only about twelve cars being re
ceived, but packers apparently needed sev
eral good strings for week-end killing and
buyers were out in the alleys early. As a
result, trade waa active and an early
clearance effected' at generally steady
prices. Fed western Ismbs sold at s
the top price thus far this season ort this
olass of stock, and a small string o na
tives realized $8.90. Ewes changed hands
at $6.00.
There has been very little activity In the
feeder branch of the trade this week for
the reason that the supply of stock suit
able for finishing has been meager. Many
orders are still on file In locsl ofilces wait
ing to be filled. However, and such strings
of sheep and lambs that have been taken
back Into the country by feeders and
i-hearers have sold at very satisfactory fig
ures. One string of good lambs went to a
feeder yesterdsy at $8.05. the best price paid
In many months at this point.
Receipts for the week have been mucn
more generous than reoently; in raot, tne
rive days supply Is about now nean
greater than the number received during
the same days last week. Despite the lib
eral runs, the demand fur the most part
has been fully adequate and offerings on
most days have sold in very good season.
Common and medium killers have .been
neglected somewhat at times and little. It
any, Improvement is noticeable in values.
On the other hand, the better grades of
both sheep and lambs are selling lust
bout 10315c higher than lsst week s close
and the demand Is still active at . the ad

HOGS The same urgency that featured
the hog trade yesterday was again evident
this morning and packers wasted little
ceremonv In filling their orders. Movemnnt
was active and competition keen from the
opening, with the result that everything
sold Just about as fust as yarded. Prices
on most droye ruled fully 100 higher than
yesterday, ana a brand new record top
was made at Fl. ia. 1111 oc-ai price ever
rpald at any previous time for full loads
of hogs at tnis point was e'.iv.
Buying enthusiasm cooled off somewhat
towaj-d the close of the session after most
of the larger order had been filled and
prices looked to be soms lower than at
the opening. The amount of business done
at the poorer figures was hardly large
enough, however, to materially change the
areneral market.
About 116 cars were received, th bulk of
offerlnvs selling around S.5Mr8.fi6, as com
pared with yesterday's bulk of $8.40S.u6
and the bulk ot ts aiKi.K a wee ago.
