"We are fearful," said Judsfft Sutton,
"that w may do the aged prisoner more
harm- than (rood. I shall write him a
purely1 formal letter expressing our giod
wishes and asking If we can bo of service.
More than this cannot he done now lest our
efforts be misconstrued by Russian authorl
tiea and prejudice aroused against Tachiii
kovsky." The Russian Freedom society some time
ago sent Tschalkovsky 1100 to aid him in
his defense on a charge of being a member
of the revolutionary organisation, among
the subscribers being Judge Sutton, J)r.

Patrick ' H. arey died at St. Joseph's
hospital Thursday at 10:35 o'clock after a
most courageous fight for life. For days
he had Jain so close to death that the end
seemed to be at hand several times. Fits
death, was the result of paralysis.
Mr. -Carey will be laid beside his wife
in Holy . Sepulcher cemetery Saturday
morning. The funeral services will be held
at 8L . Fhlloraena's Catholic church, of
.whloh he was a. member.
Frank J. Carey, the only child, was at
his . father's bedside when life fled and
had been there for sometime. He had
J watched with patient care over his father
I throughout his Illness.
j Mr. Carey recently suffered a paralytic
i stroke, from' which he did not rally. His
. Ill health, came upon him following the
! death of Mrs. Carey, three years ago. He

Mr.! Carey was born In Milwaukee, Wis.
He .came to Omaha as a young man In
1S7J and established' a hotel at Tenth and
Farnam streets, which for many years was
a familiar place In the center of the bus-
I Inets district of the city. Later the Doran
'. liou.se was removed to Its present location,
422 South' Eighteenth street, and called the
Carey hotel. For many years Mr. Carey's
place was headquarters for the democratic
faction of the Fourth ward, of which he
was a particularly active member.
" Mr. Carey was married here in 1880. Mrs.
Corey was widely known among the Cath
olics of the vicinity for her charities to
the orphans. '
Mr. Carey's business life In the city was
1 prosperous and at his death he was the
owner of considerable holdings of roal es
tate. ' He leaves one son, Frank J. Carey,
