for tha present high price of butter.
Before this tax was Imposed, Mr. Burle
son said there was manufactured annually
130,000,000 pound of oleomargarine, which
he characterized as a pure and wholesome
food product which sold for from 12 to 18
cfnts per pound. Tha price ot butter was
then 20 to SO cents per pound.
The production of oleomargarine has been
decreased 66 per cent, he said, a a re
sult ot th tax and th price of butter has
gun up from 28 cent to 40 cents, per
pound.
