attempt to alow down Ulenn It. Curtis,
who was flying th regular course at the
urns time for a ten-lap speed record. The
passenger wer landed safely and 10,000
women breathed sighs of relief.
Flights with on passenger became an
ordinary event. No speed or altitude or
endurance record were broken, but the
day' trial demonstrated the posslbllltj
of th airship as a commercial factor, or
at least as a sporting one. Curtlaa' man
ager protested against Paulhan' getting In
the way of th Curtla machine In the ten
lap trial and a contest may develop. His
total time was 24:54. Later Paulhan tried
to beat this, but failed by five seconds.
Earlier In the day, with his wife as a
passenger, Paulhan made three laps of the
oourse In 8:16. He flew over th judges'
stand after circling the field and alighted
easily In the starting quar. On another
flight of seven minutes he had Mrs. "Dick"
Ferris as a passenger. II cut corner and
flew over the stand and seemed to enjoy
his pranks, and so did the crowd, which
cheered and laughed.
Chief Featnre Of Day.
Following wer th chief feature of the
day:
Paulhan set the mark at 8:16 tn the offi

Events on th aviation field wer eclipsed

In the sky. Off over th ooean, a radiant.
tar-Ilk apparition was aeen. Thirty thou

'It's an airship," said a man on a soap

However, It was only Venus, which ap

Curtis mad a qualifying flight to keep
his time from being penalised. Wlllard

Curtlss machine. The Gill Dosch entry
from Baltimore . made a short flight, but

to the propeller. The Kasson monoplane, 1
local machine, burned its framework.
The Blerlot monoplane bopped lamely
