brought five state federation presidents and
all the district vice presidents of at least
one state Into touch with one of the great
est opportunities for serious work open to
women today. It was the first definite
effort to bring the real social peels cf
the rural communities to the attntlon of
organisations peculiarly fitted .to- meet
them. Modern machinery and sclenet are
rapidly relieving the farm of Its hardest
work, but the monotony ot tho wintry
life still remains In slte of the tele
phone, the automobile, the rural mall de
livery and other convenlnces that hava
Come with the past decade. Because tho
club women, particularly In the smaller
towns, themselves retired farmers' wives,
have met this problem and have undeniably
mastered it to a large extent, they, better
than anyone else, are In a position to help
the women of the farms solve It- thtre.
Organisation Is the solution, but while the
women ot the farms lack nothing ot the
culture, the education or the ability to
meet any and all of their problems, they
do lack the experience that will enable
them to Ret together and -work together.
Simple though It sems, It Is not simple, and
the women of the cities and the towns have
only learned to work In"- organisations
through half a ctntury of experience and
they have only within the last ten years
learned how much they may accomplish
or how to best direct their energies. The
district federation and through It the coun
try, woman's club la no longer a novelty;
It has alrtady proven a wonderful leaven,
but there Is still much to b4 accomplished
and as the city club has worked an along
the social line, so the women of the farms
who are Qualified have the same work
to do. " . . ...
The luncheon given by the Council Bluffs
women Wednesday afternoon, In addition
to Its courtesy to the distinguished guests,
afforded another opportunity for the con
stejitly Increasing club membership' Of the
two cities to become acquainted.

tion of the opportunities afforded by the
Corn exposition by their large attendance
at the lectures being given this week by
Mrs. Margaret Blair of the domestic
science department of the Minnesota Agri

and housekeepers and her practical way ot
