Sport Ina; Men Taking; Intercat In
Comlnsr Conteat.
SAN FRANCISCO, Cal., Nov. 28. Sport
ing olrules ara taking an unusual interest
in the fight here tomorrow night between
Lew Powell and Ad Wolgast. Betting Is
livelier than before any fight of any date.
Powell was a 10 to 6 favorite tonight, but
there was much Wolgast money in sight,
and It seemed probable that the odds would
evi-n up.
The fight will go twenty rounds, the men
weighing In at 133 pounds at 6 o'clock. Jack
Wlch will referee, and the fighters will
divide a $5,000 purse, 60 per cnt to ths
winner. It Is generally believed that the
winner will be matched with Battling Nel
son, lightweight champion. Both fighters
appear in splendid condition. They are be
lieved to have trained faithfully and, If
appearances count, both are in shape to put
up a great battle.

Ten of the long-prom d new cars on

be. atrirrpned with aight of tha new cars
Wednesday or Tnuraday, and tha even
oUm- na-ar oars for axtraa will be ready for
aarrtr la about two weeks.
Tha cars are models of beauty and com
fort, and aa Uw Farnam line is the princi
pal line to tha Burlington and Union ta
ttoos tha thousands of vlsltora to Omaha
will get a better Impression of tha city
whaa they sc these modern pay-aa-you-enter
cara instead of tha old contraptions
which havo been running on that line for
years.
Officials of the Omaha St Council Bluffs
Street Railway company give as their rea
son for failure to equip this line with bet
ter cars beorevthat they bad no house that
wotJd hold tha cars. The new oar house
at Tenth and Pierce street la not completed
and the cara are now run from the Vinton
g'rect barn, and will be until the new
bouse Is finished, which will be In about
sixty days.
These are the first cars to run on the
Farnam street line with power brakes, and
tha motormen who have been on that line
for years were sent to tha Council Bluffs
line to learn to use the power brake.
The company took the extra precaution,
however, of having an experienced motor
man with all the men on the new cars
Sunday.
Half of the cars were bought In St. Louis
and half were made in Omaha at the plant
of the company. It waa remarked that the
Omaha made earn were superior to those
manufactured at 8t. Louis. The Omaha
made cara can be distinguished aa the ones
which have tho unshaded numbers, while
tha numbers of the St. Louis cars are
haded.
Patrons Cnn Be at Eaec.
The rule on these cars is to pay the con
ductor as you enter the car. This Is to
permit him to always be on the rear end
of the car, where he may handle the crowd
to better advantage and avoid accidents.
Not everybody waa ready to make the
most of the new deal Sunday, and noma
confusion reaulted, but on the whole the
Innovation in street car travel worked
quite satisfactorily. Folks with protruding
corns and sore feet gladly missed the
plunging and rough tackling of the con
ductor they have heretofore been accus
tomed to. Once inside the car the patrons
can mill around in their own way, the
heavily upholstered ones confidently taking
position to save the angular ones from
bruising bumps.
The new cars are forty-one feet long and
seven feet seven inches wide, wider than
any of the cars now in wse. They are
equipped with four forty-horsepower mo
tors, 6ne to each axel.
The number of cans ha not been cut
down and the schedule remains the same
with the big cars aa with the smaller ones.
This is expected by the company to
greatly increase the efficiency of the ser
vice, as a good many more "passengers may
be carried on the larger carat' '
