lugl reply.
Tbe man who wrote the advertisement wag a business man,
and the paper that ran tbe classified advertisement had ui
with hi in at that very time 4e question of display space for hi
business advertising. Naturally tbe prospect of landing it was
not bright.
The advertising manager of the paper called on the man
and was told that he, tbe businesa man, had good evidence that
advertising. In that paper at least, would not pay , blm, the
"Help Wanted" ad being cited as evidence.
A copy of the advertisement was shown to the newspaper
man, who said he knew what the trouble was and offered to
bet the contract that not one but a doxen replies could be bad
through bis paper.
Tbe advertisement was rewritten In this fashion:

by the issue of Gold Bonds of the Com
pany, limited In the aggregate to the
principal amount of J175.ooo.000 at any one
time outstanding, to bear Interest at a rate
or rates not to exceed five per cent per
annum, payable semi-annually, and all or
any part of such bonds, as the Board of
Directors may determine, to be convertible
at the option of the holders and registered
owners thereof Into stock of the Railway
Company upon such terms and otherwise
as the Board of Directors may determine;
and to consent to, concur In and authorise
the execution and delivery of a mortgage
and deed of trust on and of the whole or
part of the railroads and other property
and franchises of this Company whether
now owned or hereafter acquired, to secure
such Issue of bonds by this Company, and
to consider and act upon the form and
terms of Buch mortgage.
e) To consent to and authorise the pur
chase by this Company from time to time
of not to exceed $J5,000.000 par value of the
bonds of the Stv Louis, Iron Mountain and
Southern Railway Company.
(f) To ratify the proceedings of the
Board of 1 'irectors theretofore taken In
and about the matters aforesaid, including
the authorization of said bonds and mort
fcaxe and deed of trust and the use to be
made of said bomls,, and to consider and
act upon sucn other business as may
properly be transacted at the meeting.
The stock transfer books of the Company
will be closed at I P. M. on the 7th. day
of January. li10. and will remain closed
until 10 A- M. on the 19th day of January,
1910.

Si n, who bus been on trial for the murder
of his wife, Norah Jane Clmlnson, was
found guilty of murder and sentenced to
life imprisonment last night.
It took the Jury s bit more than thivu
hours to reach a verdict. Judge McSurely
finished his liihiructlons to the Jury r ait
6:57 p. m. and a verdict was returned
shortly after 9 o'clock. Cleminson wici
ciiariied with tlu murder of his wife on
May 30. Mrs. Cleminson was found duil
In bed with a strong odor of chloroform
pervading the room. Cleminson said that
he hud been unconscious for several hours
and that wi:en ha recovered he had found
his wife dead by his side. He told a s.ory
about burglttra entering the hours and said
that $50 and some Jewelry had been taken.
