Prices al the close were a shade to He below the final quotations of the prevloua session. Corn and oats also closed easy, but provisions were firm. Liquidation In December was thet feature of trading In wheat. Hentiment was bearish throughout the entire sen-1 slon. With the exception of the De-, ceniber option pi U'es moved within a half I cent range. During the day the nearby deliveries sold between I1.07S and I $1.08. The tuurket closed steady at about the best marks of the day. Slack demand for the cash grain, an unof ficial estimate on the world's shipments for the week. Indicating another heavy movement from Russia and a break in the price of the December delivery at Minneapolis Anil Duluth were factors that contributed to the weakness here. Corn market was weak. The close was weak, with prices '' to amHc lower. The oats market was heavy all day. The range of prices on all deliveries was confined to a l(i' range. NEW YORK STOCKS AND BONDS Market Opens Actire and Strong, Bat Suddenly Turns Weak. OIL DECISION THE CAUSE Ilea? selllna Movement Follows the Announcement that Corporation Is Illegal Slight Rally at Close. NEW YORK, Nov. 20 The decision of the I'nlted States circuit court st St Paul, against the Standard Oil com pany of New Jersey, declaring that cor poration Illegal and ordering Its dis solution, was the one great feature of today's stock market. The news was evidently most unexpected and had the fffect of turning a very active and strong market Into one of extreme weak ness. The Importance of the decision and Ita far-reaching possibilities were freely acknowledged by officials of the cor poration concerned, who hastened to add, however, that the case would be promptly taken to the court of last resort. In accordance with an agreement entered Into some time ago between the govern ment and the defendants There had previously been a resumption of activity In various speculates. Including the copper shares, one of which, I'tah copper, almost repeated Its performance or a week ago, with an advance of ever 6 points. With the first word of the decision thsre ensued a general selling movement, which at times bordered on demoralisation. Not only were all the early gains wiped out, but net losses for the day ranged from 1 to $ or nore points. There was some Indication of a rally In the final trading, but this was offset by further liquidation and the closing was weak. The bank statement showed some extraordinary differences in average conditions. In ths latter loans decreased by over $2).00,000, while In the actual condition loans were Increased by almost $400,000. There were corre sponding Increases and decreases In the reserves, but on the vvhole the bank position for the week may be said to have strengthened. More gold for shipment to South America was nnnounced. mak ing exports to that country for the week over $6,000,000. Of general news there was little of Interest, the commercUl agencies re porting a continuance of good business In all sections. Oosslp of the day In cludod rumors of serious friction among the leading Interests In the Rock Island Frisco systems, but these were empliatl callly denied in authoritative quarters, dross returns of some two score leading railway lines for the first week of November showed an Increase of almost 18 per cent. Honda were stendv. Total sales, par value, $1,573,000. United States 4s registered declined i on the week. Sales and range of prices on the Stock exchange today were as follows: gles. Hlh. I."". Prices us a rule were nominally steady with yesterday. For the week receipts have been quite liberal, showing very Hula change, as compared with the previous week and not very much uU'fcrenoe as compared wltn a year ago. Tin; quality of the cattle, as la apt to be the case at this season of the year, has been ;oor. This is due to the fact that the season lor range cattle Is rapidly drawing 10 a close, many uf those still coming representing the tail end of the season's ahipmetus. the other hand it is too early to expect good corufeds, the supply consisting principally of short-fed and warmed-up kinds. Owing to the splendid demand for beef steers prices firmed up during the first half of the week and even tne half-fat kinds sold to very good advantage, owing to the small supply uf desirable kilkr.i. By the inludle or the week the general market was quoted UKyjUic higher. Willie range cattle held this advance until the close of the week, liberal receipts during the last few days and lower prices at other selling points caused a down aid tendency on half-tat cornfed cattle, so that the ad vance made earlier In the week has been wiped out and this leaves the market about wi ere It was at the close of last week. Cows and hellers alo firmed up during the first half of the week, showing con siderable advances on the moie desirable grades. They, too, eased off during tne last two or three days, and at the close of the week are steady with last we k s close. Siockers and feeders have been very free sellers all week, although neavy receipts yesterday created a somewhat easier feel ing, prices snowed some advance earlier in the week, but at the closo are not very much different from what they wsie a week ago, possibly a little stronger In spots. yuotatloiiK on cattle: Oood to choice cornfed steers, $7.26'us.25; fair to good corn fid ktcers, $6.(W7.2.i; common to fair corn fed steers, $4.5oyb.uu; good to cnolce range steers, $6.6(Mi6.ii,',; fair to good range steers, $4.7(4i6.60; common to fair range steers, $,I.Stiui4.0U; good to choice cornfed cows and lielfers, $4,251(5.26; fair to good cornfed cows and heifers, $3..'syi4-2o; common lo lair cornfed cows and heiiers, ii .iu.i.2j; good to choice tange cows and heifers, $3.75 ii4.60; fair lo good ranie cows and hellers, 352(3.75; common to talr range cows and helfcis, fl.bWu3.3o; good to cnoice s.ockers and feeders, e4.4Ui(5.30; fair 10 good Block ers and tetuleis, $3 i;(i4.4(i; common to fair siockers and feeders, $3.00'y3.76; stock heif ers, $2 75'u3.,5; eal calves, eS.aWiiJ.OO; bulls, stags, etc., $2. 754? 4 66. liOUS uuei a uil w anted supplies this morning and as soon as the trade was onoe underway, offerings changed hands very freely, the fifty loads in sight being soon disposed of. 1 lie pi ices were stesdy to stronger as compared with the best lime yesterday morning and quite a little higher than yesterday s weak close.
