'Ihv Hank of Kngland Secured the $2..'i00.- (XV) of South African gold available in too London market, but the Loniion control of New York s gold was reassured in the re sumption of the outgo of gold to Souiti America, consignments of more ihan $1,000,- 0u being announced for that destination on Wednesday. The Bank of England also borrowed from the London open market. This and the contemplation of the complexion ot the Saturday bank statement heie cor rected any danger of o ei -eonf idi-nee over the clearing of the financial outlook. The movement of the sterling exchange rate at Paris, which advanced a full centlma.to above the par of exenange, raised dis cussion of a possible movement of gold from Paris to London. The Paris money market la the moat abundantly supplied of all the International money markets, and the discrepancy in the interest rate In London Is prompting purchases of finan cial paper In London by French banks. Exports of grain are now running heavy and making exchange. The rush of im ports from France to anticipate the expira tion of the reciprocal trade agreement on November 1 has subsided and will reduce mo uriiinnu iui i e 1 1 if t, i i n ,-rt 111 .r 1 1 1 c 1 1 1. The nuhllftheri outline of some of the sub- I Jects to be treated in the president's mes sage to congress recalled attention to the approach of the assembling of that body and to the regulative measures that may be directed against corporations by the leg islation of the session. A notably strong feature of the market was Amalgamated Copper. The Influence back of this movement was the persistence of rumors both from abroad and from do mestic sources of the progress towards a working agreement of the various Impor tant Interests amongst the copper pro ducers. The London price of the red metal rose In connection with these reports, and In spite of the expectation that the statis tics for October of the Copper Producers' assoclitlon would show a further addition to surplus stocks. A lull In the sales of pig Iron since the first of November was another Hem of the day's news which may have aggravated the selling pressure on i.nueu omv Tle late rise In call loans to 5 per cent alio was against the niarket. Foreign ex change rose strongly In face of the stif fening of the money market, and New York exchange at Chicago fell back to 45 cents discount per $1,000. Bonds were steady. LONDON. Nov. 8. Money was in shorter supply on the markot today owing to the borrowing by the Bank of England. The bank secured the $2,miO.OoO in gold available. I'lucounts were steady, on the slock exchange dealings were restricted owing to the settlement, which haa com menced in mines with stiff carry-over talcs. Paris offered these as well as foreigners, causing an easy tendency which was only partly checked by the absence of any ciiauge in the Oernisii bunk rate. Lack of support made giltedged securities and home rails easy. American securities opened steady and slightly higher. Later the market Improved on good buying of 1'iiMti Pacific. Among the offerings of beef steers was quite a sprinkling of cornfed steers, the better grades of which were In good, active demand. Cattle of this description com manded good, . strong prices. On the other hand, warmed up or half fat cornfeds wire naturally slow and weak. Strictly good range boeves. were Bought . af,ter at good, firm prices. The yards were full of cows and heifers, and while buyers seemed to have liberal orders, there was also an Inclination on their part to take advantage of the large receipts and they -were a little backward about getting down to business. The better grades were about steady, but there was a weak tone to the less desirable kinds, due in part to the fact that the general run of cow stuff waa decidedly lower last week at most eastern points while about steady prices were maintained here. Feeder buyers seemed anxious for a fresh supply this mort'ing and they were very active buyers of everything having any quality whatever. Prices paid were fully as good as last week for the good grades.
