CATTLfc Receipts of cattle were moder
ate for a Friday, only slxty-slx cars being
reported In. This leave the total recolpt
for the week to date almost 8,000 head
smaller than last week, but more than
twice a large a for the stun days last
year.
The supply of beef steer wa hardly
large enough to make a good test of values.
Still, what few there were, commanded
prices that looked about steady with yes
terday, or 10T15c higher on the good kinds
for the week.
Cow and heifers sold quite freely in
about yesterday' notches. The fact la
there has been very little change this week
tn the market for she stock, prlcea at the
present time being about on par with one
week ago.
What few feeders there were here com
manded steady prices, and the offering
for the most part changed bands in good
season, or as soon aa they could be sorted
out. The market for the week 1 generally
quoted a 10015a higher than last week's
close.

HHISUI' Th actual offerings today were
hardly sufficient to make a test of the
market Only about alxteen car were re
ceived and five ot these were consigned
dlraot to a packer. The balanoe sold
readily, however, at good, steady to strong
prices.
Except, on Monday, the trend of values
has been sharply higher In the killing
sheep branch of the trade each suooeed
Ing day. The proportion of fat stock was
by no means excessive and the demand
from packers has been especially urgent
for good fat lamb and deslrabla ewe
stuff. All kinds of fleshy gradea shared
In the general advanoe, however, and
found a broad outlet at the prices. The
Improvement in fat lambs is most ap
parent, current quotations ranging from
2oo to 60c higher than a week ago. The
better kinds of fat sheep are selling fully
a quarter higher than last Jtriaay, with
common and Inferior classes easily lie
hiaher.
While an equal degree or activity nas
featured the feeder trade throughout the
week, there ha been no very great change
so far as prices were concerned. "Mteauy
to strong" would Just about describe the
situation any day lately with prices on
suitable thin lambs and half-fat sheep
closing all the way up to loylic higher
than the end ot last week. Practically
everything has been sold on the day uf
arrival and Nebraska buyers have been
the leading market patron.

Cottoa Market.
NEW YORK, Nov. 6. COTTON Th
market opened Irregular at an advance of
11 point to a decline of 6 points, witn
business very active and excited aud with
fluctuations very erratic after the call.
There was an enormous general liquida
tion, but big southern bulls were heavy
buyers; there was spot house support and
the report of the National Olnnera' asso
ciation confirmed small crop views.
From the low point prices quickly Jumped
about 16 to 24 points, with the market sub
sequently very irregular, about 3 point

first place, recelpta were too light to make
much cf a market, only thirty-five cars
being reported in, and, as a consequence,
interest among buyers was decidedly lark

early advices from Chicago all indicated
a break in prlcea at that point vtl h the
reault that buyers here all seemed to feel
that they were entitled to a considerable
concession. Most of them announced right
at the outset that they must buy hogs 6c
lower than yeaterday. At th same time
the light receipts encouraged salesmen
to hold on for steady or nearly ateady
prlcea. thus making the trade extremely
slow and dull throughout. Still the hogs
kept selling a few loads at a time, but a
