NEW YORK, oW 29 Today saw a con-
alderable revival of speculative Interest in
stocks. The cause was the easy money
market anil the conridcnco mat conniuutin
would further relax with tim passing of
the November 1 money settlements.
The sources ot supply or. tne aaumunm
funds offered In the money market was
belelved to be London where. It waa re
ported, private bankers had been Induced
to replace some of the accommodation re
cently called In response to the nianuvers
of the Bank of England. The attraction
for this operation waa the payment of a
commission to the English bankers by the
American borrowera, which amounted to
a aharp premium over the Interest rata
ruling tha money market there. The re
sumption of American borrowing In Lon
don marks a defeat for the expressed
policy of the Bank of England, when it
set about to obtain control of the Lon
don money markets and to make its ad
vance In the official discount rate eireo-
tive. The poBslblllty came Into discussion,
therefore, of further detenslve measures
bv the bank to defeat this movement. The
week's currency movement haa been
against New York banks, according to
the preliminary estimates, although tnu net
result Is ameliorated by the shipment oi
funds from the Interior, the balance In
favor of New York being estimated up-
tvnedia of t3.0HO.00U. On sub-treasury opera
tions, however, the banks have lost 33,271,-
0uo while gold exports to South America
nnd to Canada have taken an additional
13,475.0O. The maintenance of the aurplus
reserve at as high figures as last weea. is
dependent, therefore, upon a reduction In
the deposit liability through loan -contraction.

CATTUE Receipts were moderate this
morning as is usually ths case on a Fri
day and there was the usual complaint
from packets of the Indifferent character
of the offerings. Receipts Included practic
ally no beef steers of any consequence to
day and values were nominally unchanged.
Aa compared with a week ago. the market
for beef steers is. If anything, a little
stronger, particularly on the more desir
able grades. Common stuff has been sell
ing fairly well, but only because of the
scarcity of the better kinds.
The market for cows and heifers was
active and fully steady, so far as It went.
In addition to the usual good Inquiry from
packers there was a vigorous buying de
mand from outside butchers as well as
from feeder buyera, and everything at all
useful met with a ready sals at aLrong
figures. The general market for cows and
heifers la strong to lOo higher than the
close of last week.
lousiness In stockera and feeders ' was
rather quiet today, but for the roost part.
prices were well auatalned. This was trua
as lar as the light and medium weight
cattle were coucerved, while - salesmen
found It difficult to dispone ot the heavy
grades, even at prices 1iMi25c lower than
the close of last week, yard traders have
been anxious to effect a clearance this
week owing to the danger of storms and
as a consequence, the pens have been
pretty well cleaned ot desirable offerings,
although the trend of values tor the week
has undoubtedly been lower.
