CATTLE There was t-e usual small
Saturday's run of cattle i"re this morning,
and the limited offerings included nothing
n the way of beef, values were nomin
ally unchanged today.
As compared with a week ago, closing
quotations are right around 10t15c lower
on all but strictly good to choice beeves.
Despite the liberal receipts this week, the
percentage of beef cattle has been very
small and ail classes of buyers have com
plained of the Indifferent quality of the
offerings. The trade has been rather slug
gish most of the time, and at the close the
general tone to the market is decidedly
weak.
What few cows and heifers were In
cluded In the fresh arrivals today changed
hands readily at prices not materially dif
ferent from yesterday, and for that mat
ter very little different from closing quo
tations a week ago. There has been a
very satisfactory outlet all fall for she
stock and the market has been strong from
start to finish, all grades selling to much
better advantage than for several seasons
past. The most noticeable feature of the
trade the last week has been the Increasing
demand from the country for thin stuff,
a good share of the receipts going to feeder
buyers. Veal calvee have commanded firm
figures all week and there has been a good
steady market for bulls, stags and rough
stock generally.
The close of the week finds yard traders
pretty well loaded up with feeding oattlB,
Supplies have been liberal this week,, whlh!
the couuU-y demand has been Very disap
pointing. In consequence value have suf
fered a decline of Vu2dc, the decline being
the heaviest on the good heavy cattle and
least on the desirable light weight stears
and yearlings. The tone to the trade at
the close Is very weak and indications are
that quite a good many cattle will have to
be carried over until next week In specu
lators' hands.

as comparvt with 3.100 head yesterday and
3.14S on last Saturday. For the week re
ceipts tola! 19.0!s2. as against IS, 7 JO last week
and 19.632 h?ad for the corresponding week
a year ago. With no material change In
the general condition of the trade today
either as to prices or to movement, the
wek closes with values somewhat higher
than at the close of last week and consld
ei'Hbly higher than figures at the opening
Monday. It will be noted that receipts
while moderate were somewhat heavier
than a week ago and compare favorably
with the limited run of last year. The gen
eral trend of the market seems to be to
ward a lower level of prices, and It Is due
to short receipts only that values are sus
tained. Monday found the market In rather poor
cotidlil n, with pile s ruling ahnut lOo 'ower
than the close of the previous week. Tues
day found very little change, while from
that time on until Thursday values im
proved considerable and finished today
about 15c higher than Monday and some
what higher than at the clues of last week.
The market this morning showed very
little change from that of yesterday, either
as to price or movement. Buyers evidently
wanted a few hogs and started out bidding
prices generally about steady, at which
I basis the bulk of the offerings sold. After
the tarly orders were out of the way, how
ever, the trade was Inclined to weaken, so
that closing figures were somewhat off

head, as compared with 120.000 head for the
previous weeK and Ki.uoO head for the cor
responding period of last year. The de
crease In receipts this week Is obviously
an indication that trie big portion ot the
western mutton crop has already been
cashed and range marketings from this
time on promise to grow smaller.
Trade during the last five days has left
quotations on all clauses of slock in about
the same notches as last week's close. Good
killing stuff, especially lambs, r.ot with an
almost urgent demand at the oK,.lng and
commanded prices that were unevenly
higher in nion cases. The i.erien.-y on
handywelght fat sheep and ,ood qlallty
ewes was also higher and the outlet I road.
Tbe strong undertone to the m'a& fur
killers eased off considerably alter the first
two or three days, however, and talues 011
