Women's Christian Temperance union dur
ing Its session In Omaha is a proposed
amendment to It constitution Involving the
Junior branches of the union, the Loyal
Temperance Legion and the Young
Women's Christian Temperance union.
Miss Margaret Wlntrlnger of Bvanston,
III., general secretary of the Loyal Tem
perance Legion, Is among the earlier com
ers for the convention, but declines to dis
cuss the proposed amendment until repre
sentatives of both factions arrive to present
their arguments. Miss Wlntrlnger baa,
however, prepared a printed statement of
facta gathered In her capacity as' director
of the young people's work, which will
be distributed when the delegates arrive.
The proposed amendment has to do with
establishing an age limit for members
of the Loyal Temperance Legion, which
Includes both boys and girls, and now has
state organisations in fourteen states. The
new plan would graduate these Juniors into
the Young Women's Christian Temperance
union, which is av training claaa for the
mother organisation.
The opposition to the amendment claims
the new plan would turn the boys out
when the age limit is reached, because, be
ing boys, thy are not eligible to member
ship ln.theyoung women's organisation.'
Statistics presented in Miss Wlntrlnger's
circular tend to Indicate that that would
be the case. Under the present plan boys
and girls of all ages are given systematic
training in this organisation, which In
cludes many branches, and it is so arranged
as to hold them until they become young
men and women.
Mtss Wlntrlnger expressed disappoint
ment that the children's street parade,
which had been planned for next Saturday,
was given up. She will, however, conduct
the children's program Thursday evening
of next week, when diploma for completed
work will be granted to about 100 young
people.
