The more freouen ana narrow movements today represented the dying down of the Influences, which rausea the wider and more sustained movements or last Week. The high open ng prices and the Inflow of outnldn buy tng oiacrs which accompanied them af loruea an inviting opportunity to sell siocKS, and this whs taken advantago of. j-'uniig me remainder of the day the mar uimerwent many vicissitudes. J ne conspicuous place taken by the eiocas associated with the name of Haw and the comparative Irresponslvenees of the general list to these movements was one ground or susplclou, which isued In free selling of the general list especially or those stocks which have made up the bulk of the speculative operations for a long time past. The consummation of the Missouri, Kansas ft Texns deal laet week was the ostensible ground for the conren iraiea movement In the Hawley group, ana me attention it attracted was empha slsed by the supposition that operations In the Interborough-Metropolitan stocks were from the same source. 1 ne professional element deduced an Inference from certain operations in the man crowd, in which United States Steel figured ns collateral that there had been concealed liquidation going on In that se curuy, wnich, it was reared, might come from Informed Inside sources. Hence the free selling of that stock which followed and which caused a decline of almost points from the high to the low Quotation, This movement carried with it Union Pacific, Reading, St. Paul and all the stocks which have been most affected in sympathy with the prolonged rise In United States Rroel. The securities connected with the copper Industry were a strong factor In the early market. This strength was accompanied by a rise In the price of the metal in the London market and by a rumor from Paris of the projected formation of a syndicate of American copper Interests, which would exercise a closer control of the production and prices of that metal. A later reaction In the London copper market and reports rrom the domestic trade or declining con sumptive demands In face of the record rate of production left those securities vulnerable to the reactionary tendency of the whole market. The tone of the money market was called easier, following the strong bank statement of Saturday. The material re- cuperatlon disclosed. In the weekly return of the Imperial Bank of Germany was helpful feature In the money market. Money loaned on call at below 4 per cent for the first time since the 8 per cent rate of two weeks ago. Foreign ex change rates were strong. Considering the wide price fluctuations during the day. final changes in stocks are surprisingly small. Bonds were Irregular. Total sales par value. $3,513,000.
