contrasting sharply with th. gorgeousnes
of tbe wood finishing.
The sliding doors between ball and din
ing room ar. of plat, glass panels of the
richest grinding and polish, and this
schema ha. been carried out In all th. Im
portant door both upstair, and down. Be
tween dining room and kitchen the door Is
merely of plat, glass and transparent Th.

of enormously heavy French beveled glass,
so clear that on Is hardly conscious of

of fiddlers and dancing school masters
who learned to play his first stringed in
strument when but 14 years of age; who
made five violins before he was 30; who
organised and led th. brass band that
played for the Sixteenth Maine regiment
through Grant's campaign; who taught
dancing tor forty years until he was TO
years of age, and mho ts still making vio
lins that sell (or 3u0.
"If you'll just take a squint ' at that
number, you'll se. It I. 175. I think this is
the last violin I shall ever make, for when
the varnish Is dry and It is strung I shall
send the Instrument to on. of my great
grandsons, to be banded down from gener
ation to generation as a family heirloom."

Richardson, "I heard a violin for the first
time. A man on his way to work took his
'fiddle' along with him and plsyed as he
