In a statement Just prepared In his office.
The statement covers the years 1P04-R In
clusive, and shows that In the five year
period there has been collected $3 JW9.fcIl.78
of a total of $3. iW. 65297 levied. The bal
am of uncollected personal taxes for the
five years is $36,666.38. largely credited to ;
floaters and people who have moved away
before collection could be made. Some
of these .will yet be brought. In, because
It always happens that some folks drift
back and the tax collector lands Uietn ,
sooner or later. '
The uncollected Item of reat estat tttx,

of the delinquent total on real estate for
the four years preceding will also be
eventually collected, through "th opera
tion of the scavenger tax law, which works
like a man with a new patent- that has
his soul enthralled. It never"" stops and has
proved Itself to be one of the great laws
of Nebraska, for treasury fattening.
The effectiveness of the administration
of the tax laws is strikingly Indicated by
the percentage totals of collections dining
the five years, of the personal taxes
levied In that time, the percentage collected
la 97.2, of real estate taies 97 0., with a
total percentage of collections 7.6. - While
the total uncollected taxes, $86.711. 81, 1$

to almost nothing, through the unceasing
operation of . very competent tnachiuery.
