Eebekah Degree Team Finishes Firit
in Drill Contest in National'
Competition.
SEATTLE, Wash., Sept. 28. The degree
team representing Paradise lodge No. 205,
Sioux City, la., of the Sisters of Rebekah,
was today awarded first prise, $300, for
the best drilled team In the national com
petition held last night. The Sioux City
lodge was also awarded a $50 prlxe for
their decorated float in Wednesday's pa
i ade.

Pickpockets Continue to netara
Them to Railroaders Through
V. S. Postal Service. .
There seems to bo a sort of philan
thropy governing pickpockets tn and .about
Omaha regarding railroad passes. Within
the last ten days three railroad men have
been relieved of their collection of passes
by pickpockets and the same deposited
in a mall box by the thieves and subse
quently restored to the owners through
the postofflce.
The latest railroader to have his passes
returned to him by the postofflce route
Is G. S. Pentecost, division passenger
agent of the Rock Island, who was robbed
of his wallet and a score of passes by a
pickpocket last week.
"It begins to look to me," said Post
master Thomas, "aa If some philanthropic
pickpocket Is anxious --hat the anti-pass
laws in this state must be enforced and
knowing a railroader by instinct simply
relieves him of the tabooed passes as a
caution that the law must be enforced.
Of course we have no other recourse but
to return the passes to their owners with
out reference to the anti-pass laws."

Some Time Today.
In South Omaha yesterday not the least
sign of disorder was appurent. One car
stopped on a break In tho lino at Twenty
first and Missouri avenue, where the wire
was dead to cut off Missouri avenue and
Thirteenth street from tue heavier cur
rent of Twenty-fourth street. The niotor
mun could not get his car to go, not know
ing the tricks of the trade. -While he was
working at It a large orowd gathered and
with the crowd came the police. The dif
ficulty was overcome when the next car
tame up and pushed him over the deui
point. The criwd laughed and chaffed
the conductor and motorman, but no one
attempted to interfere.
No arrests have been made for rioting
In Fotith Omaha, but the officers have re
laxed none of their vigilance and the auto
mobile makes many trips ually.

J. J. Fitzgerald and It. M. Laverty played
off their tie tor tho Country club cham
pionship ycsteiday, with the resalt that
Laverty was beaten, 6 up and 3 to play.
The grounds eru In fair condition and the
men played a fair game, but not nearly
so well as either one hu done on other
occasions. Fitzgerald started out by tak
ing tho first hole. Laverty took the sec
ond and Ihe third by a score of ( to 5 and
7 to 6. Fitzgerald won the fourth and
Laverty the fifth. Fltxgcrald won the
suvetith and the ninth, being 2 down at
tho end of the first round.
In Hie second round Laverty broke hla
brassy and seemed to lose heart. He wou
the first hole and tied the second, but
lost the next tour and the match. The
prize for the game Is the directors' cup.

not certain that he would return to school.

goid for a place. His studies have been
a handicap lately, but he la In a fair

Girla At Basket Ball.
The move to permit the South Omaha
High school girls to play basket ball on the
campua of the school has proved popular
and about thirty girls have appeared on
the lawns. They wear the bloomers on
the lawns. They are playing well for the
early days of the season. The teams have
not yet organized, but some promising
material is coming to the front.
