CHICAGO GHAI.CAr" PROVISIONS
Feat area of the Trading and Closing
rrlcea on Board of Trade.
CHICAGO, ajrpt. 16-Llght receipts In
the southwest contributed In a large de
gree to a considerable advance In wheat
prlcea here today- Tha market closed
atrong. with prlcee tip Vai-c. compared
with yesterday final figures. Corn price,
also advanced sharply and at the close
were S.c to llic above yesterdays close.
Provision also followed the upward trend
Although .wheat, prlcea showed a sub
stantial gulp, a a result of tha day's trans
actions, the great majority of tradera were
unable to offer any satisfactory reason for
the strength whloji was manifested tha
greater part of (he session. The situation
in the south , waa given, however, aa the
most logical reason. Receipts at Kansas
tlty and St. Louis, which have been light
for some time, were still lighter today, and
us a result cash price there reached a
higher premium. A bulge In com was
another factor1 that helped to inspire de
mand for wheat. Shorts were active bid
ders nearly all day. The opening waa
weak on eellpg brought out by a decline
or Sd to Id af Liverpool and bv con
tinued, libei-a,l .movement lu-fhe northwest.
An estimate of the Canadian crop In the
northwest, which waa made public today,
and which Indicates a' crop much larger
than generally anticipated, was a bearish
factor early In the day. The market de
veloped considerable firmness during th
first half hour and gained Iti'strength aa
trading progressed. During the day De
cember sold between 7'sc and 99Hi899S,c.
The close was strong, with prices above He
from th top, final figures on December
being Wo. . --
Lively bidding by shorts for September
caused active buying of all options of corn
snd resulted In advances of more then
lo In all days. The market closed strong
at almost the top.
The bulge In corn stimulated active sell
ing of September oats, which resulted In
substantial advances in all options. The
close was atrong, with prices up 4c to
Nf,c. -
Provisions were strong throughout the
ntlre session. At the close prices were
6c to J74c above yesterday's final figures.

HOtiS Light receipts of hog thl week
hav made buyer very hungry for supplies
and It wa very evident this morning that
1 they all wanted as many as could be se
cured. As Is apt to be the case under

been tha ca on a good many davs of late
Evtn tha common load looked pretty good
In the eyes of buyer and everything waa
cleaned up early in the morning. The price
paid were mostly 5c higher, common to
medium grade (bowing the most advance
A good chare of all the hog sold al in 05
