Probably 6,000 persons aocepted the Invl tatlon of Manager Byrne to attend tha i ocptlon at the Orpheum theater last nihl. marking th opening of th season of 1903-10. From 7:30 o'clock until a late hour ther was a constant stream of peopl who wished to see the house since th over hauling it has undergone during the sum mer and to listen to the new orchestra. Both features wsre equally pleasing. The Interior of th theater has been entirely gone over with th result that the house looks' as bright and new as though It were Just built. Tha boxes have been enlarged and refitted, there are new leather scats Instead of the old plush ones, th scenery Is nw throughout, the lighting effects have been improved and in every respect th pla house has been improved. Some of the painting and frescoing, especially tho allegorical figures in th entrance, are works of art. Tr.e new orchestra is a feature which will prove a sourc of joy to tha patrons. The number has been raised from nine to fifteen pieces, which gives an Increase of power and quality which will make it constant attraction. Th new pieces added are a piano, organ, two French horns, violin and 'cello. PLANING MILLS OVERRUN Local Plants Are Swamped with . Order Because of th Rush In Ballding. Omaha planing mills lust now ar over whelmed with order. In most cases they are unable to supply door and window frames as promptly Ss builders require them, necessitating suspension of work on th outside finish. These frames ar th simplest class of mill work. Tha delay In producing Interior finish Is much grester and provokes a roar from builders and owrtra all over the city. Much work Is Sent to outside mills. The Wlckershams, famous mill men of Chicago and nearby cities, have had their evi-s rn Omnlm for Some time. It is Known that they offered lo back a practical wood- v otkrr of Otrafia for from 1.C00 To 00,OTXI If he would take charge of the mill, but the offer it declined.
