FavlII of th Chi cago Tuberculosis Institute declaring: "It was a wise precaution to take, and It would be well for all persons who have pathognomonio symptoms to be careful before entering upon th marital state. White It is no longer generally believed that diseases such as tubercular Infections are inherited by the children of afflicted parents, th danger lies in another direc tion. "Such Infections are contagious and can be transmitted by the husband to th wife, or by th wife to th husband, and it would be difficult to maintain ch con dition of hygiene In the family that such contagion would not be possible. "In all such cases I would consldsr it wis to pursue th same course a Mr. Cudahy and postpone the wedding until the disease has been eradicated and until their physicians hav advised them that ther 1 no further danger of spreading th contagion." Dr. W. T. Belfleldr'secretary of th Chicago Society for Social Hygiene, said: "Of courae, I know nothing about this Individual ease and cannot say whether ther would be any actual danger either to hi prospective bride or their possible progeny If young Mr. Cudahy war to marry at this tlm, but th thing ' that strike m favorably and forcibly Is that h has taken precautions. I "That is a thing that w have peon trying to teach. W have preached and written against hasty marriages among diseased persons, for while 'neither X nor others who have studied tha question of heredity believe that there Is such a thing as an inherited disease, I do feel certain that lt Is frequently impossible to prevent th transmission of a disease from the parent to a child."
