made by Denver in any one Inning. Ber

perfect support, Hartman and Maag doing
some pretty stunts. Denver's one run

his base on . balls and Maag sent him
home with a two-baKger. Dalton opened

The wind In the afternoon was not as
good as in the rooming, but nevertheless
a pretty raoe waa witnessed. The Cath

Iole was second, time 1 hour and 4 minutes.
The Trio, third, time: 1 hour 5 minutes.
Mary Alice, fourth, time: l hour 6 min

In the afternoon race owing to the '"t
that the Mary Alice touched the Trio
during the course of the race. The Omaha
contended that this should throw the
Mary Alice out and put the Omaha In
fourth position. However, It was shown
that at the time of the foul, the wind had
lulled to such a degree that the Mary
Alice was not under the control of Its
skipper and tha Mary Alice was therefore
held bl am el aaa.

Defeata Karl
Behr.
NEWPORT, R. I., Aug. 23. Of tho 164
players entered In the twenty-ninth annual
tournament of the United States National
Lawn Tennis association, at the Newport
casino only eight remained tonight. The
fifth round was completed today and to
morrow will see the four matches In the
sixth.
W illiam J. Clothier, who won the na
tional championship three years ago, de
feating Karl H. Behr again met Behr to
day and again showed his superiority.
Four sets were required. Behr took the
first easily, but after that the numerous
points he earned were more than offset
by his frequent nets and outs. Clothier
played steadily throtighout and tonight
he was mors the favored to win the all
comers' tournament, as Behr has been
considered the only possible stumbling
block in his course to - the challenge
match.
Nevertheless, there were not wanting
tonight those who predicted that the llght-nlng-llke
Paclflo coast player, M. E. Mc
Loughlln, was very likely to reaoh the
final round, and to make matters decidedly
Interesting for Clothier. However, Mo
Loughlln still has to meet R. H. Palmer
and the winner of the Inman-Touchard
match. .
Today's surprise was the defesk of T. R.
Pell, one of the holders of the southern
doubles championship and Indoor tennis
Ci onii.on. uy ... M. Crngin, Jr.
Tomorrow Clothier will have for an op
ponent E. H. Whitney, the Harvard Inter
scholastlo champion. While Whitney has
played an excellent game throughout the
tournament, experts do not believe he
will prove a serious obstacle in the path
ef the former champion. McLoughlln will
meet R. H. Palmer, who won a hard five
set match from F. G. Colston today, while
T. C. Bundy, the Los Angeles expert, will
play Cragln and F. C, Inman, the Met
ropolitan champion, will have C. F. Touch
ard for an opponent. The experts v were
Inclined to favor Clothier, Bundy. Mc
Loughlln and Inman as the most probable
survivors for the seml-flnals.

test of the Omaha Automobile club, has

If you want
costly looking
if you insist on ornamented boxes and
don't care what you pay for a lot of orna
mental fandangoes you won't buy Cobs.
They're too roughtoo cheap looking the
packages are too ugly the box is too common.
Cobs are made of well ripened Havana, Cobs
don't pretend to be fancy they're the crudest
of all cigars. But what they lack in appear
ance they more than make up in quality
and in value, and in aroma, and in smooth
ness, and in taste.
Just because everything else tut the cigar has been econ
omlzed on down to the mill Cobs don't have to be. They
can be sold nine for 15 cents and be made of the same
leaf as the best 10 cent Havana cigar.
Not for men who want to economize. or who have to but for all
men who want the best smoke.
