The crop report of the Canadian government, which indicated a total yield of wheat amounting to ap proximately 175.0H0.0U0 bu. for that country thla year, had a depressing effect' on the wheat market here today, final quotations showing a net loss of c to ?jc. Corn also closed weak. Oats were easy and pro visions firm. As the official report on the wheat crop of Canada, Including Ontario and Quebec, bhowed a prospective yield far In excess of expectation, sentiment was decidedly bearish at the opening. Taken In conjunc tion with the orop report of this govern ment given out a few days ago, today's statistics forecasted a total yield for North America amounting to 900.u00.tno bu., by far the lamest crop ever harvested In the two countries. Opening quotations wero oft ',V3 c to He. Aa trading progressed, however, a firmer tone developed, owing to rainy weather conditions In the northwest. Dulls took advantage of this possible delay to ' harvesting- and" -faroe -prices higher on several occasions during the day. In the final hour, however, the market bcoaniu weak on liberal realising. The close was at almost the lowest point. Beneficial ralna In the corn belt had a weakening effect on corn, sentiment In the pit being bearish nearly the entire day. Ssptejnber was congested and Its price was forced up about lc on covering by shorts. The upturn In September, however.- was ahort lived, the close being weak, at net declines of H"tSc to o. Oats wtre Inclined to be weak, owing to a continued heavy movement of the new crop, but delay to harvesting, due to wet weather, had , tendency to steady the market. NEW YORK. Aug. 13 -The speculation In stocks suddenly became active and a trothy upshot of prices raulted. Tlia ap pearance of these symptoms, after as pro lonxvd sn adsance as had occurred and with prices at so high an altitude, aroused the suspicion of operators of tne profes sional olass, who wer keenly alert for th.- Hist Signa of reaction. The relapse iaie In the uay was sharp. Yesterday's heavy selling was supposed to have reunited from this warn inn which was In accord with the policy Inculcated by the report of the commis sion aouolnted by Governor Hughes to in vestigaie exchanges and tacitly agreed to, it was intimated by the authorities of the New York Stock exchange. This incident shamened the watchfulness for signs ot a culmination In the rise, rise. , Th. nAt&- in rnnnectlnn with nrlcs move ments moved away from the more general nonsMeration of conditions common to all s.curltles and took up "deal rumors." The buoyancy of the Harrlman pacifies grew out of a rirtnor that the Union Pacific ex ecutive committee had already moved 10 iltl.i an increase In the dividend distribu tlon of the two companies, the discussion of Union Pacific's proposed segregation plan was revived with a variation pointing to an Issue of certificates of participation of nrnf its on the comuuny s investments. SHEEP Receipts thus far this week total about 38,000 heaa and barring a few loads that were lett over on ons or two days. everything has been sold on the day ot arrival, 'today's run was only of moderate proportions, about twenty-seven doubie- decks In all. Approximately half ot today's rsceipts were feeders. There was little quotable change In the tat sneep branch ot tne trade toaay. Move ment ot supplies waa rather listless, put early sales as a rule showed generally steady figures. The demand for (00U handy weight Werners and yearlings appeared tu possess more life than ths oemiiid for the heavier grades ot tat sneep, but the mar ket in eiincr kind could not be called par tlcularly active, prices It anything were a trifle higher on desirable handy weights, with fat muttons a shade lower in touio cases. A string of Wyoming wethers sold at H30 with yearlings a dollar better. uutcher iambi were in comparatively light supply and changed hands In rea sonably good season. Prl. es were well main tained, ana tne market level is nominally steady with yesterday. One band ot young rangers was turned over to packers at tJ.30. Ths recder trade was characterised by a good healthy tone, and offerings com manded fully steady prices. It might be well to note that while feeding stock has made no sensational advances during tne week, values have continued strong thro-uncut and there seems to be no abatemsiu to demand, tjulis a string of wethers soil this morning at It-US. quotations on tal sheep and lambs: Qood to choice spring lambs, 37. 267.76; I au to good spring lambs, tti.ibil 7.26; good 10 choice yearlings, t5.1O(u6.60; fair to good yearlings, I4.7bi(i-6.10; good to choice wetiit-r, 4. 3644.06; fair to good wethers, H10j4.3o, good to choice ewes, 14.151. 40; fall to gooti ewes, t3.S674.16.
