cupied under Its streets, alleys and public
grounds and has asked members of the

resurrect and pass an old ordinance assess

Councilman Davis Is a member of this
committee . and says that the mayor's
wishes will be compiled with. Further, the
councilman says he will not vote for any
ordinance giving private parties or cor
porations the light to use underground
space until ths occupation tax ordinance
affecting occupancy of this space is
pasaed. Mr. Davis, however, voted for the
Brandels resolution.

ing to Increase the capacity of the mill In
Omaha, raising the output from 750 to
1.000 barrels a day.

Earl Haney, a young man living In the
north part of the city, was brutally as
saulted by a mob of lmlf a dozen or mote

Mr. Haney was visiting at the park
with two or throe friends In the early
evening, and Just after leaving the pavilion
this party was accoKed by a Slieeli ytown
crowd with Insulting epithets. The young
men moved away from the toughs, but
later as Haney was walking alone near
the lake he wa set on by the Hheelcy
gang and beaten into insensibility. He
succeeded later in crawling to the . exit
on the Park street side of the pavilion
and was there picked up by some other -
parlies and carried up to the Hunscom
Park pharmacy at Park and WoolwortU
avenues for treatmenr. His face was t-r-rlbly
beaten, and for a while 11 was '
thought that hla skull was -fractured. The
police ambulance was summoned and
Haney was taken to the home of friends.
