campment from Omaha will be Mr. and

The Pennsylvania delegation to the Salt
Lake City encampment, which passed
through Omaha Thursday afternoon. Is for
tified with a carload, more or less, of liter
ature exploiting the glories of the Smoky
City as the only suitable place for the en
campment of 1H10. Among the special at
tractions that Pittsburg proposes to offwr
Is Its new Jl. 500,000 auditorium, which. It la
claimed, has a seating capacity of 10,000.
The governor of Pennsylvania and the
city officials of Pittsburg extend a cor
dial Invitation to the veterans to meet at
Pittsburg next year and promise the boys
the time of their Uvea.

ment on Local Option, Jaraea
Taking; the Adverse End of

By the grace of his excellency J. Charles
Dahtman, mayor of Omaha, today will
be a legal holiday for all democrats resid
ing In the city and holding allegiance to
"his honor."
For today Is the day of the long
heralded and twice deferred picnic of the
Dahlman Democracy club.
Rain or shine, the picnic will be held
this time, announces the mayor, who
places great confidence in a committee on
the weather, which reports "fair" for
Saturday. The picnic was to have been
held July 5, but it rained. Then it
was to have been held July 18. but again
It rained. Some loyal Jims thought the
fates were against them, but Harry Hay
ward said the trouble was that committees
had been appointed on everything but the
weather and good weather could not be
expected without a weather committee.
Such a committee was then appointed and
it Is this committee which sanctions the
Saturday picnic.
Also, Local Weather Forecaster Welsh
announces "fair and cooler" for Saturday.
Many and great will be the "stunts" at
the Jim picnic which will be held at Sey
mour lake park all day, even continuing
after g o'clock In the evening. Boss Flynn
says that all the events will be headliners,
but th mayor will lay claim to be the
drawing card, though honors may have to
b divided with Comptroller Lobeclc
May Talk Loral Option.
Th mayor and the comptroller, both
candidates for governor, will debate on the
liquor question. That is, they mill debate
If th comptroller accepta th challenge of
th mayor. Should the debate materialise
the mayor will talk against county option
and Mr. Lobeck will favor It. The comp
troller has not aa yet accepted the chal
lenge, but If he does he nlll nut leave the
decision to his auditors for they will be

Next to the debate in point of Interest
will be a tug-of-ar between th six te-
publlcan and the six democratic council
men. There are some husky men on both
sides, though the democrats will line up
with more muscle than the republicans.
Councilman Sheldon, formerly athletic di
rector at the Young Men's Christian asso
ciation, and Councilman Funkhouser,
formerly a league ba.se ball player, will
head the democrats In the contest for
strength, while Louis Burmester and Fred
Schroeder, both strong young men, will be
put at the head of the republican column.
Other athletic events will Include foot
races for public officials, bald-headed men,
boys, girls and women, the events to be
twelve in number. Joe Butler and Charley
Wlthnell will engage in a boxing match
with Colonel Berryman, secretary of the
Jacks, as referee. The Dahlman rifles will
also give an exhibition drill.
Addresses will be delivered by Mayor
Dahlman, Harry B. Fleharty and Judge
Oldham of Kearney.
At tonight's meeting of the club the Jlmj
will make final arrangements for the
picnic.
FLEMING GOES TO OREGON

William Flemtng, who has been a resi
dent of Omaha for forty-five years, left
Friday for Milwaukee, and after visiting
there and In St. Paul, will go to Salem,

His wife, Mrs. Ida Fleming, who has been
a teacher of English In the Omaha High
school, and his eldest daughter, will go
with him. Miss Ruth Fleming will teach
in the Salem High school next winter.
Mr. Fleming was tax commissioner of
Omaha and was Interested In a number of
public Improvements. He was one of the
founders of the Omaha Young Men's
Christian association when the old build
ing on Doutlas street was built.

Francis Rah. a farmer from Butler
county, waa Injured at 11 a. m., Friday
in Jumping off a moving street car at the
south end of the Twenty-fourth street via
duct. The car waa going fairly fast when
Rah made his leap. He struck the pave
ment on his face, cutting th left side and
bruising bis body severely, lit may have
been hurt Internally, but Dr. Harris has
not determined that as yet. Rah was re
moved to St. Joseph's hospital, where he
Is now resting easily.

Broadwell Suits
County Commissioner! Consider Wis
dom of Not Trying to Get That
Forty Thousand Dollars.
The county commissioners ar consider
ing the advisability of dropping the suits
against Frank A. Broadwell, former clerk
of the district court, for uncollected fees.
In 1906 suits were filed against Broad
well as clerk and against D. V. Vlnson
haler as county Judge for fees earned in
their offices, but never collected. Tho
suit against Judge Vinsonhaler was tried
and lost by the county and the petition
against Broadwell has not been brought up.
The amount Involved is nearly 110,000,
which was earned by the clerk's office
during eight years, or two terms.
Since the incumbency of Robert Smith
the office has been run on a cash basis
and all fees are collected and turned over
to the treasury as earned. F. 8. Howell
was employed as a special attorney to
fight the cases and the suits were expected
to settle the points as to whether the of
fices of the county are responsible for fees
as soon as earned or only when actually
realized.
The matter Is expected to come up for
consideration before the committee of the
whole and the county attorney has been
axked to give an opinion as to the possibil
ity of dropping the suits.

Gilbert Poorly', the 2-year-old son of Mr.
and Mrs. Henry poorly, and grandson of
Congressman Hitchcock, 137 North Thirty
second street, fell from a second story
window of the family home to the ground,
a distance of eighteen feet without sus
taining the slightest injury. He struck upon
a well-Kodiid yard and was laughing when
his frightened mamma reached him. Th
little fillow had been pulling a window
scretn until he succeeded In getting It
loose. Then he leaned out the window, lost
his balance and went to the ground. It
was a frightened household for a little
while.
