The Missouri Pacific Ik planning to make

the aouth stdn of Leavenworth street.
Aftex this work Is finished It Is the pur
pose) of the Missouri Pacific to improve
the condition of the Belt line, which has
been allowed to remain as it was when
Installed twenty-five years ago. Some of
the grades will be eliminated and a double
track Installed part of the way.
Tha Belt line Is becoming one of the big
gest switching propositions In the west
and fou .-teen locomotives are now In dally
use to 1-andle the cara to the various manu
facturing plants and material yards around
the city. This makes quite an operating
problem to handle all theae trains, as the
Belt line la also used by the Illinois Cen
tral to run lta tralna to the stock yards.
Often aa many aa four engines and crewa
are tied up for a considerable length of
time at the "Y" at Forty-sixth and Far
nam streets, waiting for one of the nu
merous tralna to get through.
ft. M. Vance Is the engineer la charge of
tha work on the Omaha terminals.
Iowa Central to Come Here.
CJeneral offices In Omaha will be opened
in a day or two by the Iowa Central rail
road, which Is operated In connection with
the Minneapolis & Bt Louis. Morrell Law,
formerly traffic manager of the New Mex
ico Central, will be the general agent here
and the offlcea will probably be In the
Brandeis building.
Tha road makes connection with the 1111
nola Central at Storm Lake and will try
for Minneapolis business via that line. It
also has a St. Louis connection with the
Wabash at Albla, la.
Scheme to Hasten Freight.
The Missouri Pacific bas started a new
scheme for hastening package freight to
Omaha, which la meeting with the hearty
approval of shippers. Special cara for lesa
than carload lots are now started dally
from Cleveland, Indianapolis, Cincinnati,
Philadelphia, Baltimore, Atlanta and many
other points. These cara make the trip
in three days from Indianapolis and five
days from the seashore points.
Motor Cur Sensation.
The McKeen motor car sent east last
week to the Krie created quite a sensation
' in Chicago and railroad officials from all
over the country were on hand to witness
the tests. The McKeen Motor company
had agreed to deliver the car to the Erie
In New York. The Lake Shore road of
fered to haul the car from Chicago to
New Tork free of charge that some of Its
officials might have the pleasure of mak
ing the trip to Investigate the car. The
reports from the test show that the car
was highly patlsfactory and indleitions-rosr
are that orders will pour In faster than
they can be filled, by the company In
Omaha. The McKeen Motor Car company
now employs 42S men and needs more room.

The State Railway commission ot Kansas
Is sending out notices to all the railroads

New York Life.

The belief la strong In business circles
that the Omaha National bank has con
cluded to close on Its option for the New
York Life building. The option la for $660,
000 and runa to October 1.
President Joseph H. Millard bas not ad
mitted that his corporation has finally de
cided, though ha told an Inquirer that
"one proposition la getting pretty warm."
It la understood that If the Woodman
of tha World had deckled to build at Thir
teenth and Karnam streets, the '.Omaha
National bank would not have gone on
With lta purchase of the New York Life,
but would have taken quartera in the new
Woodman building, but now that the
Woodmen have about closed their pur
chase of tha Sixteenth and Jackson oor
ner tha Millard bank has concluded to buy
the Life building.
Thera ta another feature of the Woodman
proposition that oomes up In thla connec
tion. It la said that the banker those
of tha Merchants, Omaha, First and Ne
braska nationals In the vicinity of Thir
teenth and Farnam had agreed to make
up a bonus, equal to the difference In
prices of the Jackson and Farnam street
sitaa If the Woodman would take the lat
ter. But this, too, fell through.

Mrs. Rose Morton Believes She is
Heir to Sixty Millions of Eng
lish Property.
Mrs. Rose Morton is awaiting word from
London to find out If Charles Morrison, an
F.nglifch uncle, left a will disposing of his

Morrison was eccentric and unmarried.

Mrs. Morton, who lives in Omaha at the
residence of George Hoagland In Dundee,
