The paid admis sions amounted to 23,781, and thousands were refused admission. On October 6, 1904. 2S.040 people paid to see Boston and New York play a double-header, this being the last great crowd before today. The first game was a pitchers' battle between Wood and Kllllon, the locals winning In the seventh Inning on poor work by Kllllfer, following a two-base hit. Free hitting marked the second contest. Another double header will he played tomorrow. The un usual number of two-base hits made in the games was due to the fact that the big crowd overflowed Into the field and ac cording to the rules, a hit into the crowd waa good for two bases. Ordinarily many of these hits today would have beefi easy outs. Scfpe, first game: DETROIT. BOSTON. AB.H.O.A E AB.H.O.A.E M.tntyr. If. 5 o 1 " ONtlM.
