BUST, FELTON AND CASS IN RACE
F.leelloa VH1 He Held After the Rood
Is Hold th Hlahent Bidder
Latter Part of ThU
Month.
Fpeculatlon I rife as to who will be the
new head of the Chicago Great Western
railroad under the reorganisation which
will take place after the road Is sold In St.
Paul August 11 . The mlmlmum price for
which the road may be sold la 12.W).0O0,
but It may go considerably higher In case
of competition.
Horace G. Burt, the present mansglng-r-celver.
la first cholre for president, with
8. M. Felton, formerly president of the
Alton and L. S. Cass, general manager,
for second choirs. Of theee three It Is aald
Mr. Felton In closest to J. P. Morgan, who
will have the power to choose the official
head when the time conr-i.
Mr. Cass Is said to be the dark horse
and to have a splendid chance of elec
tion. His management of the road has
been acceptable to all and It Is said that he
may remain with the road If he desires.
He has extensive Interests In Iowa and
these may have something to do with mak
ing up his decision.
It la now thought thro will be but one
bidder for the road and that will be a
representative of the J. T. Morgan syn
dicate. There Is some talk of other bid
ders. The recorded cost of the road Is over
175,000,000, which Includes all equipment as
well as tracks and terminals. The price
set by the court, therefore. Is a good In
vestment. The company owns 1,843 miles
of track, tapping some of the best dis
tricts In the Mississippi valley, fsed as
a feeder It would be valuable to any east
ern road or to one of the Hill lines as a
connection to Chicago.
A. B. Stickney, former president of the
road, says he thinks the Great Western
will ultimately become a part of one of
the large systems.'
