Vivian Westfleld was the charming 18-year-old
daughter of Colonel Westfleld. He
was rather an old man, but Mrs. Westfleld
was a very beautiful woman In her 30' h.
Vivian had made her debut Into society
the autumn before and was now In a grat
fashionable whirl of gayety.
But the endless parties and dances began
to make her nervous.
One day her cousin Mildred, a milliner,
asked her to come down to her millinery
store. Vivian readily agreed to anything
that might soothe or quiet her nerves. So
Saturday found her with Mildred.
Vivian enjoyed putting the dainty ribbons
and flowers on the hats and on her fifth
visit Mildred pronounced her an expert de
signer. One afternoon, Returning from a jard
party, she found her father very sick. After
lingering a week he died. Great was the
grief which prevailed, for the colonel was
a kind and benevolent man.
A month afterward It was found that
