Omaha, I; Denver, R.
Slugger Bill n true to his name.
Bill Hchlpke. skipper of the Omaha tram,
wan the big noise at Vinton street park
Tuesday afternoon and had the fans all
on edge by the way he hit. ran bass
and played ball. The trapper made a splen
dld record of five hita In five time at
bat He drove In six of the nine runt
made by Omaha and stole three bases.
Alio, he accepted every fielding chance
which came hie way.
A pretty food record for a lad who limps
with rheumatism.
Both Denver pitchers looked alike to the
kipper for he made three hits off Ford
and two off Pat Bohannon. One of those
from Pat waa a double. He also scored
one of the runs made by the Rourkes.
Bitch Is ths record as put down for the
crack third baseman ef the Omaha team
who In large measure was responsible
for the defeat of the Ortsalles. He was
the batting kid. Borne had the temerity to
ascribe his prowess to a horseshoe which
the clothesline baa Ml on the back of his
baseball shirt.
Pome of the other members of the Rourke
family also had their batting eye with
them and timely hits were the order of
the day. Especially waa that true of the
hits made by Bohlpke which brought in
the runs just when needed.
Both trams were blanked In the open
ing round, but In the second Denver
started with a lead of two. Omaha got
one of thoss two back In the second
half of the second. Then Denver made,
another In the third and Omaha made' two
whloh tied the score. Omaba took the
lead In the fifth with two and kept It
to the end.
In the second with one out, Ira Belden
walked and Hartman hit a scratch down
the first base line for a double on which
Belden soored. Haley's Infield out put
Hartman on third and he scored when
Gondlng dropped the third strike on Ford.
Sralpke Makes First Tally.
Bill Hchlpke made the first run
for
Omaha In the second. He hit to centor,
went to second on Franck s sacrlfloe, sto.e
third and came home on Lower's Infle'd
out. fltankard hit the ball over the left
field fence for Denver's third run, in the
,
third Inning.
Doc Welch singled in the third and was
out at second on Kane's grounder, mak-
Ing two out. Kane and King worked the
hit-and-run racket, and It really worked,
for Kane soored and King got credit for
a uouoie. ocniyu urvvo iviiih iiuiiic wu
a single.
In the fifth Kane opened out with a
double and was sacrificed to third by King.
Schlpke scored him with another single.
Schlpke stole second, but was caught at
the plate when he tried to score on :
Franck's sing... Gondlng allowed Franck j
to score with a drive to middle.
Ford was retired after that trouble and
big Pat Bohannon brought forth. Af tej
Jones had made a remarkable catch of
Fisher's long hit against the big sign, Pat;
passed three In succession. King hit to Pat
and Pendry was caught at the plate. But
then came Slugger Bill with, his little hit
and scored Welch and Kane.
In the eighth Inning Welch walked and
King was hit by a pitched ball and
Schlpke scored them both with a double.
Denver again today.
