CHICAGO GRAIN AND PROVISIONS
Wheat Market Still Weaker as Result
of Boantlfnl Harvests.
CHICAGO, July 17. Ideal weather for
harvesting and Increased receipts of new
wheat here and In the southwest had a
weakening effect on the wheat market
here today Final figures showed losses
of to le, compared with yesterday's
close. Corn closed steady, but oats and
provisions were weak.
Extreme nervousness characterized
wheat trading, but the prevailing senti
ment was one of weakness. July moved
over a wiae range, selling between 41
and 31.22. The market closed weak, with
5 rices slightly above the lowest, with
uly at $120V The chief factor was the
continued favorable weather conditions
for moving the new crop. As a result
of these conditions, arrivals of new wheat
here and In the southwest showed a ma
terial Increase. Nearly forty cars of new
wheat were reported to have arrived here
today, the greater part of which will be
available for delivery on contracts after
It has been "dried. Owing to the la
creased arrivals there, the price of cash
wheat at St. Louis was oft lc to 4c per
bushel.
General selling caused early weakness In
corn, but a firmer tone developed during
tha last half, owing to Improved demand
for the caah grain by shippers. The sell
ing at the start was due to weather con
dltions. The market closed steady, .svlth
prices He lower to He higher, comp.i-eS
with the previous close.
Heavy realising sales, prompted by Im
pending arrivals of new oats here next
week, cauaed a break of nearlv 2c In July
At the close prices were Hc to 1H
lower than yesterday. July closed at
45c.
Provisions were weak all day, owing to
profit taking by local holders. The close
via Be to 25c lower than yesterday.

CATTLE The varrls AS 11 H11.il stri a Sft'
urday were bare of fresh supplies of cattle,
but the total reculpts for the week nhow
a very liberal run, there being a small gain
over last week and quite a noticeable gain
over the total of the corresponding week of
last year. While receipts have consisted
largely of native snd fed cattle there has.
aleo been quite a little sprinkling of rangers
this week.
The market on th better grades of beef
came, especially me handy light cattle,
has been in fair condition from rlav to nv
and at the close prices are around 1016!
nigner than a week ago. On the other
nana, rough and common cattle have been
'low scuers every day and are, If anything,
a little easier than last week
The supply of cows and heifers this week
nas noi oeen very good, consisting Prlncl
pally or grassers and a good many of them
far from desirable klllera. The mrir,i nn
the better kinds at the close of the week
m possioiy a lime stronger, while the com
moner kinds are a little easier than at last
week's close.
Stockers and feeders have been In light
supply most of the week, still there were
enougn nere ar. me beginning of the week
to bring about a very sharp break. Since
men me rrane nas oeen In active condition
and the decline has been made up so that
at the close of the week nrtr 4,,a
about as high aa they have been for some
little time.

HOGS Hogs were 5!EN0c lower this morn
ing, and. although the trade generally .p-
pearea as rather slow, still there was suffi
cient life to effect an early clearance.
everything being cleared up by 10 o'clock
m the morning. The hogs sold pretty
largely at $7.70jT7.75, and on up as high as
s.iio for the be.
The market this week has been In very
satisfactory condition, as Slewed from a
seller's standpoint Although the opening
was a little easier than the close of the
previous week still prlceb tended upward
reaching on Friday the highest point
touched since 1902, when hogs sold In
practically the same notch. With that ex
ception, the market was the highest of any
year since 1893. Today's decline wipes out
a part of the advance, but still at the close
of the week prices are 6TJ'7,4c higher than
they were one week ago.

Magailne as Great 1)1 vidVnd-rayei s
The history of the magazine business
shows that enormous profits there are
In It. Munsey'B Magazine share, par
vain $100, ar now said to b worth
(1,900, paying monthly dividend of
$100. Yet, Munsey's has less than one
third the circulation of the Woman's
World. Tlie Ladies' Bom Journal doe
an annual business of $39,000,000. All
well-known magazines have made and
are making fortunes. Th lat Mr. P.
F. Collier, of Collier's Weekly, left an
estate of over $0,000,000. Why shouldn't
the Woman's World, with additional fa
cilities, pay better than any of these)
with its larger circulation and higher
advertising rate?
The larger the circulation, the higher
the advertising rate Jflvou now our afl
vestislng rate is the highest of any pub
lication -98 per line, Sii2 per inch, $t,3U0
per page, per issue. tine r"--ent issue
contained over $90,000 ndverttnlng, and
$20,000 more came too late for Insertion.
In addition we are turning down about
$20,000 undesirable advertising a month.
Our bualness, profitable from the start,
has grown so fast that within the past
few yeara we had to move several times
to larger quarters. It la now housed In
three large buildings employing over
6u0 people.
Our learnings.
For the first three months of 1909,
when not a share of our 9 per cent pre
ferred stock was yet sold, our profits
were $69,000 while but $46,000 is neces
sary to meet the 9 per cent yearly div
idend on our preferred Bharea.
On this baslB the annual profit would
be $236,000 more than sufficient to pay
9 per cent on ootn our preierrea ana
common stocks. Additional capital will
still further Increase our great earning
pu.4.-lbilttlefl, especially when we are
heading towiid unprecedented prosper
ity, anil advertising protnles to become
enormous for a magazine known to aj
vertlBers as one of the best pullers and
which covers the territory which by
Kplendid crops will soon be nine billion
dollars to the nation's wealth. We are
toncenlrstlng our greatest efforts to so
cure about a million dollars advertising
In the next twelve months, which would
mean dividends of at least 25 per cent.
These facts ehould appeal to thought
ful and conservative investors. Tlie
more they in estimate the more of our
9 per cent preferred stock they will buy.
Buy Before the Advance.
Today you can buy our 9 per cent
fully paid and non-asbassable preferred
shares at $65 and secure the bonus of
one-half common sharci with each pre
ferred share. After August 16, 1909, th
preferred shares will be 980, to be soon
followed by withdrawal of th common
stock bonus. You can buy these shares
for cash or on small monthly Inutall
ment. Personally, I own only oommon stock.
Dividends must be paid on your pre
ferred shares before 1 can get a divi
dend on my common that shows my
own confidence in tills business. Tlie
upturn in our advertising business this
midsummer, usually the dullest season,
JuHtltles my expectation that common
stock dividends will start before th
year expires. The next preferred divi
dend Is due January 1.
When our common stock also receives
9 per cent, the balance of earnings be
longs to all shareholders. Not many
corporations provide for uch liberal
dividend distributions.
I believe you have never before had
such an opportunity for Investment
where shares can multiply In value with
Increasing dlvldenda.
Our business la open to fullest Inves
tigation. Our largest shareholders ara
prominent Chicago bualness men who
are familiar with our business, Some of
them, after a thorough Investigation,
huve Invented as much aa $20,000 and
some $10,000 In our preferred shares.
