Eight stralKht for Omaha.
Harry Welch and Slugger BUI Schlpke
were the deciding factors In the pitcher
battle at Vinton park Tuesday afternoon
between Hollenbeck and Brennan. For
eight and a half Innings the two team
had battled with neither side able to score
but In the last half of the ninth, Slugger
Bill and the doctor furnished the dope.
Welch hit a two ackr over second which
nearly knocked the block off Brennan In
passing and the trapper put a Texas
Leaguer orer the bead of Holland and
the gam was won.
Hollenbbck and Brennan had a real bat
tle. These two southpaws did some re
markable work and batter after batter
faced them only to be subdued. Hollen
beck was hit safely ft Umea. He did
not Issue a pass but bit one man. Brennan
was hit for five safe ones and- Issued one
psss to first. Hollenbeck struck out seven
and Brennan nine.
Omaha had mad but three bits off Bren
nan until the ninth Inning when Pendry
struck -out. Ail reliance was than placed
on the big doctor and cries went up from
the stand for him to put It over the fence.
He did the next best thing by hitting for
a double. Up cam th skipper. When the
catcher was fixing up some signals with
Brennan. BUI whispered Into the ear of
Umpire Jack Haskell that he was going to
win the game and he did. He put th ball
Just out of .Holland's reach and too far In
for Cole Jo capture and Welch sprinted for
home. It was a grand finish to a botly
contested game.
Wichita presented an entirely different
front than for the last three games In
Omaha. Brennan, who stopped off In
Kansas City for a couple of days had re
turned and he was In fine fettle. Anderson,
the shortstop who has been laid up with
a strained ankle for some time was back
In the ram end Rhone brilliantly and
Armstrong, catcher on the Wichita team
last year, was brought forth from the tall
and uncut somewhere to do the receiv
ing ' act. Weaver has been out for some
time and Monday he was hurt again so
Holland was forced to set the .wires in
motion for' a new catcher. These three
stienglhened the team In a large measure
as the addition allowed Cole to return to
right and Hughes to go to second.
Anderson started a triple play which
worked like clockwork. In the second in
ning Kane had singled and N King reaohed
flrt-t when Brennan threw wild on his at
tempt at sacrifice. Franck was up and
ho hit a liner at Anderson who nailed it on
tho run, touched second and put Kane out
a: id then threw to first in time to catch
Kin. Wichita again today.

Notes ( the Oaaie. '
Welch and Schlpke secured four of tba
five hits mad by th Rourk family.
A triple play Is of such rare occurrence
that th fans are talking about it yet.
Welch found one left-banded pitcher he
could hit and he hit blm at just th right
time.
Holland was able to just get his finger
on th gam ball, but he could not fasten
on It.
Hollenbeck was cheered every time he
cam to bat, but he was unable to connect
safely on any of this attempts.
Not a base was stolen during the game.
But then there wer not many who reached
first so they could try to steal.
