NEW YORK. July 7 In Its general ap

more torold than yesterday, but the actual
transactlona were somewhat more num
erous. The weakness which developed early
was a more positive manifestation of a
price tendency than has occurred since the
prolonged holiday. The persistent heavi
ness of United Htates Steel has a depress
ing effect on sentiment toward the whole
list. Foreigners showed some renewal of
uneasiness over the copper trade situa
tion. Th price of copper warrants fell
sharply in London, and quotations for the
metal were marked down at the metal
exchange In New York. Reports of rapidly
expanding activity by the electrical equip
ment companies with corresponding de
mand for copper did not prevent a weak
tone in the copper Industrials.
There were a number of stocks regard
ing which speculative predictions have
failed, leading to reselling by disap
pointed buyers. This wss true of Wabash

moralised, prices being 16"T26o lower than
yesterday. Some of tha Chicago paakera
wireo that they were buying their droves
fully SOo lower. With advices of that kind
at hand tha market at this point opened
slow. Still as it became apparent that
packers really wanted th hogs and as a
pretty good shipping demand was also de
veloped, tha trade took on more life and
tha big bulk of the hogs ohsnged hands
by 11 o'clock In th morning. Tha prices
paia were xuuy ltraioa lower than yester
day. This means that a good share of
today's hogs sold at 7.5031. 70, with 17 65
and 87.80 very popular prices. Good, heavy
hogs sold up as high as 87.80.
SHEEP Receipts were light this morn
ing; in fact, there were hardly enough
sheep on sale to make a market- The bulk
consisted of heavy Montana wethers and
overs! odd lots of native and western
stock.
It will be remembered that there has
been a poorer demand of lat for heavy
muttons than for the lighter kinds. Today's
trade was no exception and weighty weth
ers war slow actors. Although early trad
In native and western stock was largely
of a peddling nature, the demand was fair
and the supplies changed banda In reason
ably good season. The general market
today ts quotable at steady, with heavy
sheen slow.
A small lot of weetern spring Iambs
were good enough to bring 8H.35, one deck
of western ewe sold at 84 36, and yearlings
realised 86 86.
