July L-A further shrink. age in li votum of dealings in stocks to day reflected the seasonable dullness of the summer hot spell. Prlcea received very Hull Impetus and the fluctuations were feeble and inconstant Besides ths Inter eat -centered in the money settlements In progreaa, there was a large diversion of attention to the gradually emlted facts of me Delaware Lackawanna Western plan. Involving a recasting of the organi sation to conform to the suDreme court decision In ths commodities oiaune cases, and of the distribution of large special company and stock dividends. The order of publication of different acts and decisions to carry out the plan led to ?reat confusion In estimating Its signl Icance, and whetted curiosity and excite ment to a higher degree. Contrary to many Drevloua reoorts. there Is no disappropriation of the mining prop erties by the railroad company involved In tne plan. The 10 per cent special dividend a cash dividend out of accumulated ana surplus earnings, and the 16 per cent stock ajvidend represents stocks or subsidiary railroad companies merged or bonds registered. The coal company adjunct In corporated In New Jersey Is merely a selling company, to which the railroad company contracts to sell ths coal at the mines In Pennsylvania. The stock of this company Is offered to the stockholders of tne railroad company, out it is not to De held by the railroad as a corporation. The railroad company, therefore, has not di vested itself of any property heretofore neid. Quotations for the stork of th new coal company were established In the curb mar ket at par, tne suDsortption price to Delaware Lackawanna 4 Western stock holders. The Delsware Lackawanna A - . Early In ths day there were tales of the stock for cash at 68a. The stock sold at that price on April n of this year, but never higher, The regular quarterly dividend of 2 per cent came oft today, and when the stocks sold ex-dlvldend at 649, the . discrepancy with, the cash price brought out the In formation that the special disbursements, announced only- today were -payable to stockholders of record today. Only buyers of the stock' for cash today, therefore. would be entitled to the extra dividends. The closing Quotations was 610 bid. 680 asked.
