Amy la a girl of U yer who works in
ons of the large stores of Omaha. She
supports not only herself but aiao her
aged mother, who la a cripple. Amy's
father died when she was but t years old,
and she has worked ever since trying to
pay for their home. In the least year shs
has paid for It, and she Is very proud to
think It Is her.
Ons evening after a hard day work
Amy went home and found three bill
awaiting her. She knew she had not a
large enough amount of money to pay
them, so she and her mother set to work
to devise a plan which would enable them
to earn some.
"Why not have me knit mittens and
stockings and make rag carpets for you to
sell In the evening." said the old lady.
"I would not allow that, mother, but
you know we do not need this whole
house; we oan rent out thoee two room
upstairs, and they are worth quit a sum
of money a month."
"I never thought of that, Amy, girl.
Wg can have our furniture moved out to
morrow and put an ad In the Omaha Sun
day Bee. The room where a stove may be
. put up Is fine for a kltohen, and the other
will make a good bedroom. I know we
..will get along well after our new nelgh
- bors have moved In."

"Aw, ferglt the talk. The water's fine."
Th day's program does not depend In

free the various amusements at Manawa.
Th newsboys will assemble at Fifteenth
and Farnam streets and. after serenading
the several newspaper offices with a band
furnished by the Muslolana' union, will
take cars for the lake. Here the swim Is
next in order, and after this if the nit

th eloquent quartet.
Cash In the sum of 2300 and prises cost
ing 8600 have been given for the day.
LESS RAIN BETTER CROPS
Roaeland Merchant Says oath west
ern Nebraska Has F.astera Part
of State Beaten.
In the opinion of W. L. Dunce n, a mer
chant ot Roseland, the crops in the south
western part of the state are growing
faster than they are In this section,
"Between Crete and Holdrege," said Mr.
Duncan, "wheat and corn are looking fine
and really are In better shape than any I
have seen between Omaha and Lincoln.
"Down In Adams county, where I live,
we have not had nearly as much rain as
has fallen In this part of the state. Early
In the spring w had hardly any and It Is
only during the last three weeks that, we
have been getting our shara. Consequently,
while Douglas and the neighboring coun
ties have been Buffering from an excessive
rainfall, Adams and 4 he southwestern coun
ties have been getting Just enough to make
corn and wheat grow rapidly."
