ASHLAND RANGE A FIXTURE
Government Probably Will Decide to
Retain It as Tarsjret Prac
tice Field.
There is a strong probability that the
Ashland target range may be made a per
manent range for amali arms practice by
the United States army.
Colonel Cornelius Gardener of the Six
teenth Infantry is now at tha Ashland
range to make an exhaustive Inspection of
the range and surroundings with a vtew to
considering its permanent use as a govern
ment small arms target range.
It was used as a practice range by the
Sixteenth Infantry during the preaent tar
get season with satisfactory results, and
there is reason to believe that it may be
transposed Into a permanent range for all
the troopa contiguous to Omaha, Including
Fort Des Moines.

The Next Four Stories Win Interesting Books
One of these seven prizes may as
well be yours. Why not try for It?
All school children below the second yner in High
school have opirtunities to win the prizes indicated
above. Here's the way: ;
There are countless plots for romances, tragedies
and comedies in the want ad pages of every edition of
The Bee. If you unearth a plot from one of these little
advertisements, and write an interesting short story
based on it, we will give you a prize.
Your parents or friends may help you in the selection
of a plot, but the composition must be all your own work.
We want stories of not more than 500 words interesting,
clever little stories the very best you can write. Ypu
will not only have a chance to win one of the prize, but
will get a whole lot of fun out of selecting the plot and'
writing the story.
'You may think, right now, that the selection of a
plot is going to bo hard. It isn't. Of course, you'll have
to thlak and observe and read the advetrisements care
fully, if j-ou want to win a prize, but you can win if you
will really try.
You see, the people use the want ad pages xf 'Tli6 Bee
for so many different purposes that each little advertise
ment is really a pulse beat in the life of a city. Some'of
the advertisements! will suggest poverty; some will sug
gest prosperity; some romance; some comedy; and so on,
through the many different phases of life.
A situation wanted advertisement could bring to
mind the story of a young man's struggle to secure a start
in life. A horse for sale might suggest the story of a
husband who wants to sell the horse in order to present
an electric runabout to his wife.
Make up your mind, NOW, to win one of these prizes.
You can do it and at the same time have a lot of fun.
It's a fascinating game.
There are a score of good 6tories in this very edition
of The Bee. Turn to the want ad pages and dig them out.
You can do it.

Excursions to Omaha to trade promise to
become trips to the city for sightseeing
and Summer rest, and besides the refund
which the Jobbers' and Manufacturers' as

wholesale houses, some railroads ma
put tn a low round-trip rate to Omaha and
return.
The Jobbers' and Manufacturers' associa
tion, of which Ward M. Burgess is chair
man, is preparing for the fall merchants'
meeting and on the plan inaugurated by
Omaha wholesalers will refund fares again.
The excursions will not be on certain
dates, but the fare will be refunded to
any merchant buying in Omaha between
July 18 and October 1.
From the office of the secretary 2&.000
copies of the official announcement to
merchants are being mailed and the outlook
is for a heavy trade on fall and winter

The Jobbers' and Manufacturers' associa
