Corn, oata and provl slons closed weak. The wheat market waa decldely strong at the start and Initial quotations Bliowed gains of VsVc to S'tr4C compared with the previous close. The upturn was due to additional rains In Kansas and Missouri and to an advance of MM at Liverpool where prices were bulllshly affected by continued light visible supply. Demand which was quite urgent at the opening, soon dwindled to small proportions and toward the end of the first hour prices began to sag. '1 he early reports of wet weather li. the harvest belt were found to have been ex aggerated as to the probable effect on harvest operations, and other news of bearish tenor developed sufficiently to In spire quite general selling, particularly of the juiy delivery. The Kansas crop report, which forecasted a total yield of about M.ouu.uO bushels of wheat for that state, was an Important fact. This was supple monted by declines at Che northwest mar- ktls Snif fy repnrt,f hood-yields In Ok lahoma. ' The range on the July delivery for the d;iy waa between 11.13 and I1.1C4 The market waa weak late In the day and cloned near the low . point of the season, with July at 11.14. Favuraule crop reports and an unex pected increase In local receipts were the chief nations for the weakness which pre vailed In the corn market the greater part of the day. The market waa bearlshly af fected by a report from Omaha, stating that large quantities of corn, originally In tended for shipment to the south, were accumulating there owing to a falling off In demand. The market closed weak, at aimoKt tne bottom, with prices VtVko be low i lie previous final figures. Oats slumped sharply on realizing sales based un denials of damage by green bugs to the new crup In southern Illinois. The close was weak, with prices Ho to 13 lVkC below yesterday's final quotations. Provisions were weak the entire ' day. Pork displayed the greatest weakness and closed lim.iVc below the previous close. Lard and Vibs were off 2HtllWc The leading futures ranged as follows: NEW YORK STOCKS AND BONDS Ashland. June 22 A recovery In prices todav was to be expected In view of the baselessness of the rumors which circulated In the stock market yesterdav to account for the selling. As the rumor of H Harrtman s sudden ana raiai m- ess waa quickly disproved, the conclusion followed that it was put in circulation Ith the purpose of forcing selling ot ecks In the Interest of the bear position The bears found their following conslder- bly reduced today, and those or tnem hat were still short of stocks felt in- llned to cover. Outside of these opening ssles the gen eral market was lower, but Just how much would be difficult to say. The few cms of Oregon yearllnss and fed westerns pei'ved to be slow sellers, and while there was nothing sold early that would Indicate that the market level was lower It was generally conceded that the close would find values at a decline. A conservative guess of the gerersl market places It right around weak to a dime lower than yesterday. Toward the close three loads of Oregon yearlliiKS were weighed up at $6.K5. a de cline of ISc under yesterday's price for the same class of stock. It was In fact the smallest run for a Tuesday lor several months back. Under the influence of a good buying de mand for good light cattle the market on that kind of stock was generally 1U0 Higher and the trade active. The most of the cat tel of that description changed hands early In the morning. On the oilier hand heavy cattle even those that were well finished and ot good quality were rather slow sale and prices were only about steady witn yesterday. As high As $6.65 was paid for tidy killers. Cows and heifers were in very light sup ply snd as there was a reasonably good demand, the market was generally strong to loc higher on anything that could be considered at all desirable. The offerings were practically all taken early in tue forenoon. The supply of stockers and feeders was very small, there being hardly enough to really make a test of values. The amount of the decline at this point was generally 5til0c. While the trade opened a little slow, owing to the reluctance of salesmen to make the concession and the fact that first bids were 10c lower, still there was a fair movement and the most of the Iiokh changed hands in Rood sea son. At the close, however, the market show -rt still more weakness, winding up at the low point or the day. A consid erable proportion of all the hogs sold at $7.4.r7. 65 and on up as high as $7.K5.
