FISHER THE STAR OF THE LEAGUE
Omaha'e Left Fielder la Playla Best
Gatne of All.
If It were possible to pick the leading
player of the Western league the lot prob
ably would fall upon Flaher, Omaha's faat
left fielder.
Flaher is playing a game few men ever
have played in this league. His remarkable
speed enables him to succeed. He has nit
a pace almoatr if not quite, as swift aa
that set by Jimmy Austin, who left the
ltourke's third sack to go to New York
last fall.
Flatter holds three distinct records In
the Weatern league. He has made mora
safe hits, more runs, stolen more bases
than any other player. Up to Thursday he
had crossed the plate forty-two times, had
hit the ball safely fifty-eight timea, had
stolen twenty-three bases. In addition to
these peerless records. Fisher was batting
up to Thursday .446 and had a great field
ing average to go with It.
Flaher haa become the 'terror of the
league to batterlea by hla daring and ac
curate baae running. Last Tueaday he stole
three baaea on Alderman and Towne In
succession, and that, too, while they, with
the aid of the basemen, were doing their
best to get him.
Fisher cannot keep up such a record and
stay In minor baae ball. He will have the
one advantage of Austin, that ha Is a much
stronger batter.
