June 14 Report of a more abundant harvest In ' the outhwet than nad been predicted earlier In the season prompted liberal sales of wheat on the board of trade today resulting In a ma terial decline In prices. At the close the net loss for the day was o to Co. Corn closed fairly steady, oat easy, and pro vision strong. Harvest news was the chief factor In the wheat market although bearish crop ad vices from foreign countries also exerted a weakening Influense. With the exception of a short lived bulge early In the day, the market waa weak throughout the entire session and at times the selling pressure, especially on tha July delivery, was heavy. As- a result, the price 0 the nearby op tion declined nearly te from th high point of th day, the low point being reached at tl.l&ft. against 11.17 V the beat market touched aarly In the session. The temporary Jirmnaaa at -the start tuu due chiefly to reported sale; of liberal quantities of the caslt grain. 'News' In general, however, was so overwhelmingly bearish that the market lost all Its strength In the first quarter of an hour a4 developed additional weaknesa a trading progress. World's shipment for th week were much larger than expected, being nearly 3,000,000 bushel in excess of those of th previous week. Of this total amount Russia contributed 4.000.000 bush el. Harveastlng was reported aa being general in southern Missouri and advices from Central Illinois claimed the reapers would begin work in that lection next week and that high yield were expected. The floods. In the Missouri, river and Its branches was reported to have passed the climax and no fear waentertalned for crop In the river bottom. The market fur ch wheat in tha southwest was da moralised', prices at Kansaa City being down to Sc to 7c. A heavy tone prevailed at the close, although prleea were about Via above -the low mark. MABKIT SHRINES IN VOLUME t'nlnn Pacific Make Sosae Show of Streaarth, hat So a th era Pact fie sat Hill Stock Are Heavy Story ef the Day. NEW YORK, June 14 There was a fur ther shrinkage In the volume of the Stock market today following the tendency of last week. The entire unresponsiveness of the general market to the impressive ad vance In t'nlted States Steel proved a striking feature of the day's transactions. The obstinate Inertia of the general list seemed to proclaim the hopelessness of any effective action of prices, snd had much to do In causing the dlscoursgement of ef forts to move the market, which was re sponsible for the partial stagnation ot the late dealings. The accumulation of I nlted State steel was most persistent and aggresslvs. both for home- and London account. Buying from both sources was considered impor tsnt and due to Influential financial Inter ests. The highest price touched before the dsy was 6!S on June 3. As the one half per cent quarterly dividend came orr the stock lsst week, today's price of tKv ex ceeds the previous record by that much ad- dtlonal. Aside from the impression made by the buying and the Inferences drawn from It, there was no new development concerning the property to account for the strength of l.'nlted States Steel. The Introduction of It to the Paris market came Into renewed discussion and It was urged that the beginning of active trading In the stock In Paris might be made the occasion for a stock market demonstration. Amalgamated Conner passed from under the depression which has held It for sev eral days and moved upwards, In spite of another decline In Indon and unfavor able opinions on the trade position reported from Paris. Paris Itself gave over the sottve selling of coppers, which It has been following in connection with tne specula tion In Mouth African gold mines, which has engaged the attention of Paris oper ators. The falling back of the Paris cheque on lxmdon indicated a relaxation in the pressure for remittances from Paris to London, which carried the cheque sharply upward in connection with the London stock settlement last week. I'nion Pacific made some show of strength, but Southern Pacific was heavy, helping to the contusion 01 speculative settlement. Th Hill stocks were persist ently heavy. The new advance to the united states Steel movement was contrary to the her alded promise. Outside of United States Steel the most conspicuous stock in trie day'a dealings was Wabash preferred. The rise In that stock to 61 was accompanied by circumstantial reports of a coming absorption by the Lackawanna, with a fuarantee of a dividend on Wabash pre arred aa a compensation. Persistent re ports were without any confirmation, but there was a softening of ralea for time loans. Bonds were Irregular. Total sales, par value, $5,370,000. There were, in fact, hardly enough cattle on sale lo iriterest buyers to any great extent and the trade as a whole was very dull from start to finish. there wan Quite a sprinkling or Dei siters on sale, but packers did not apptar at all anxious for fresh supplies, but seemed rather to be in a waiting mood, holding off and bidding in many cases, if onj thing, a little lower than last week. bun the more desirable kinds kept selling load or two at a time at Junt about steady prices. Home pretty good cattle sold up as high as $6.80. The movement, however, was very slow, as noted above. cows and heifers sold a little more freely than beef steers, the market on that kind of cattle being In fairly satisfactory condi tion at steady to strong prices, inferior grade were slow and no better than steady. The best feeders commanded steady prices, as high as $6. Co being paid for cattle carrying some flesh. The market on Block ers and all kinds of light cattle waj very slow and weak. It was very evident that psckers wanted all the hogs thv could get, and th light run, together with very favorable advices from other selling points, stimulated the trade to such an extent that prices were tOfilNc higher than last week. Hogs sold largely at $7 407.60 and on up as high as $7.75 for good heavy weights This mean that the advance today carries the market to a ne,w high level for this year, although the market Is not yet as high as It was In 1M2. The receipts mere fairly liberal for thla time of the year and thl feaiur and tli (act that ther hsv been no grassem of an consequence n sale this year until todsv left value estimate and th market level open to rgument. Th demand, a a result, was a trtfle sensitive, and buying talent w In clined to punish values In the hope tht their purchases would at leaei be low enough to give them the benefit of the doubt. The earlv trad was verv slow and It was well along In the morning before very many mutton had pssd over the see lea. came evident tht the easier feeling nd ram evident that thee aslar feeling and apparently backward demsnd wss the re sult of a systematic "smothering'' and a Isrge portion of the Oregon aggregation wss turned over to packer at generallv strong prices. Coring lambs did not fare as well as sheep stuff, a string of Oregon selling at $7.60 Western cornfed springs sold t $ 00. The decline on thla cls of stock under lsst Thursdsv ls right around 2.".tfj40e. A few crs of Oregon wether old at $5 0. and two car of grass-fed vesr llngs from th same state made $7 00. Three cars of western cornfed yearling old at the same price. Summarised, th nearest approach to the general market this morn ing would b right around steady to easier on sheep, with spring lambs at the de cline noted.
