Part to New Tork City
FigBre.
NEW TORK, Jure 11 Th demontra
tlv bidding up In today' mrket of a mis
cellaneous lot of Industrial stock and spe
cialties not usually consplcuou, did not
serve to keep up an effecttv demand for
the usually active trading stocks. The gen
eral market was languid and tbe tone be
came heavv after the probability of an
other large loan expansion by the banks
came Into discussion.
The large percentage of th Increase In
bank oelarlng this week over the corre
sponding week last year proves due In
large part to the New Tork City figures.
Those figures for this year are almost
double those of last year, the Increase
reaching nearly tLOOO.OOO.WO. The degree
In which Increased speculation I respon
sible for the Increase Is Implied In the
comparison of this week' sales at the
Stock eybhang of 6.K29.000 share of stock
and $36,926,000 par value of bonds, hlle for
the week ending June la. 10S, sale." were
1.AMT.S00 shares of stock and 111.117, OuO par
value of bonds.
The large bond transaction by new 1s
sue going on at the financial center also
account for the violent expansion In bank
ing activity. Intimations of further large
f nanolal operations In view, the approacn
of the eml-anniial settlement and the ex
pectation of the yearly demand from the
nterlor for fund to move the crops an
add to th attention given to tha money
situation.
Report that effort had failed to patch
up the dispute among the trunk line rail
road over the rrelfht rates on import
traffic made a bad Impression. Tho cop
per Industrials were weak and discussion
of the Copper Producers' association sta
tistics bora on the possibility of a con
cealed surplus of stock In second hands
and of raw copper not ready for delivery
In the producers' hands. A rise of a point
In United States Steel In th late dealings
had a rallying effect on stocks, but the
market olosed Irregular.
Th cash Item of the banks yielded the
exp ted Increase, but the loan expansion
again proved the deciding factor In th
statement, cutting down tbe surplus $1,000,-
000 In the average and the actual surplus
$2,67,&16. Th New York City bond sal
plays a part In the Increase of $18,976,500
in -the loan by average, which figure at
26. E9,000 Increase in the actual compar
ison. ,
Bond were Irregular. Total sales, par
value, $3,848,000. United State 4. regis
tered, have declined S Per cent on call
during the week.
